Took my new frame out today & found out that the rear axle that came with it is made of cheese & softens before the recommended 10NM of tightness!!! Can anybody recommend a good solid rear axle(boost 148).
Thanks for any help👍🏻
Hey. Burgtec ones are really good. Plus they usually have alley key ends on both sides. Just in case you do manage to round one.
Burgtec, wolftooth, oneup, take your pick really
Dt swiss or Burgtec
Burgtec have a bit more weight to them than rockshox maxles and seem real high quality material, my anodised ones still have a great finish everywhere including the threaded section, I've never had one single issue with bolt up maxles but I lube them, use quality tools and the correct torque. God knows what others are doing to turn them to cheese or what crap some bike brands are sticking in their frames, mine have always come with SRAM Maxles.
I’ve always lubed mine, used decent Allen keys and go by feel rather than torque settings. The only axles I’ve killed were early Maxle QR fork ones.
Thanks for the info, Burgtec it is👍🏻
Do you mean the hex socket has rounded?
10nm isn't exactly huge. Have you considered your tools are worn or shit?
Oneup do the only solid axles I could find. One in the back of my Ripmo.
Brand x ones usually half the cost of the brand fancy and work perfectly well.
Another vote for the Brand X ones. Using one on my Exotic carbon fork as a replacement for the shite original. I wouldn't have any concerns using one on the rear of any of my bikes.
Or, if the thread pitch (1.75) and sizes suits, then the Nicolai rear axles are hefty feeling. Listed as alloy but they feel really heavy to me. Added bonus of 17mm spanner flats as well as the 6mm hex: https://www.bike-components.de/en/Nicolai/Rear-Thru-Axle-12-mm-p64004/

Surely these are bolt-through axles and not Maxles?
