You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi
Starting to look at options on upgrading my 26" Cove Hustler and was wondering what non boost full suss 27.5" frames people would recommend for XC/Trail duties. Travel from 130 - 150mm
I dont want boost frame as I want to rebuild my Hope Pro 2 Evo hubs into 27.5 wheels as I would like to reuse as much of the old bike as possible.
Airdrop Edit looks good and seen a cheap deal on the 27.5 Cove Hustler.
currently riding a small frame which is a bit short for me really. New geometry means I can get on a Medium frame at last.
Any other ideas?
Not looking at buying just yet but just want some ideas to keep an eye out for some deals.
Cheers
Kona Process 134?
Process 134 from a few years ago was really fun and poppy. My friend uses one for all round riding - sonslobg ish xc rides, through trail centres and a few uplift days.
The AirDrop is much burlier than the Process - it pedals uphill fine and absolutely monsters the downhills. I found it a little slow to turn into tight corners - but that maybe me just being crap. Ed at Airdrop is really helpful and happy to give advice on compatibility. Well worth a test ride.
Seems a false economy to limit your frame choice due to your wheel rebuild. If you're rebuilding your wheels with your current hubs then you can use a boostinator on the rear wheel and if you're keeping your forks then no need to do anything on the front.
Rocket/Flare
Banshee Spitfire. Magic! Had mine three years and it just gets better.
a mate has a process and loves it so that could be an option.
will check out the Rocket/Flare.
i know it sounds odd to want to keep my old hubs etc but i'm just fed up with all the different standards changing things. i am not that bothered by having a super stiff frame etc. i want to feel the terrain that I am riding, otherwise I might as well be on a hover bike!! which i am sure will be with us one day!
saying that though there are some nice options out there if I do decide to go for a new bike rather than a frame. decisions decisions!!
all part of the fun but it would be nice to hold onto existing stuff rather than selling it for peanuts or recyling stuff.
If moneys no object, a Transition Scout Carbon with a -2 Angleset would be my choice.
Tom_W1987 - A transition would be great. unfortunately money does come into it.
tricky decision between paying a lot of money for a boutique frame with okish forks, wheels and components or getting a better all round package. Although maybe an alloy version rather than carbon could be an option
I think 3K is my budget for a full bike. just playing with options as I am injured at the moment so have far too much time to look at bike porn.
I demoed some bikes a couple of years ago and the one bike i didnt want to like was the one that i liked the best. A 2015 Santa Cruz Bronson. At the same time I demoed a Whyte T130 which had the worst tyres of any bike I rode but you could tell it was a good bike.
and the search continues. Boost or not to boost that is the question!!
Second the Spitfire
Would t exclude boost frames for the sake of a 20 quid adapter.
I think 3K is my budget for a full bike
I'd just buy a full bike then TBH, probably work out more economical.
New YT Jeffsy 650b maybe, if you're set on that wheelsize?
Yeah I'd 3rd the spitty having had one for 2 1/2 years before I sold it.
Probably going to get a Jeffsy 27 myself to replace it once funds allow.
If you have 3k to spend I'd sell all that have and buy a new bike unless your drivetrain is brand new. 3k gets a lot of bike, Whyte T130, Giant Trance etc
