Why steel ? I was steel only for few years but after trying decent aluminum it opens up lots more options. Never found modern aluminum frames any harsher than steel.

Was it a cheap alloy frame ? Modern geometry mid- to high end alloy are more forgiving than low end stuff. IMO

DMR Trailstar £320 direct from DMR.
Much more modern geo then the Onza, and a threaded BB to boot.

Yeah I pondered the Onza Geo for a long time, I needn't have. Depends what sort of riding you want to do really. I'm 64 hence forum name 🙄 I don't need anything as Slack as the Trailstar. I did a 20 miler on the Quantocks last week and coped just fine. In fact I enjoyed it as much as my E Bike! 😎 As for the BB I'll take a chance at that price. Househusband if you're in the mid Somerset area you're more than welcome to take a look.

Plus one it was a Commencal meta ht aluminium frame the DMR looks too much for my needs but the Onza does look very very tempting

I like my Onza, it's nicely made and handles well, loads of tyre clearance, the BB is a non issue.
SRAM adapter with the Hope BB from my last hardtail threaded into it. Not had a squeek from it.

It's not light and feels really short compared to my Bird Aeris but most things do.
No chain device tabs if that's an issue.

@oldfart Cheers but I'm several hundred miles away! I've been mulling things over and in all honesty I think the 29" version, the Payoff, might be more tempting... long-term monstercross project maybe!

So haggis 1978 are you going to put the Chromag on the classifieds? Househusband would the Payoff be frame only? The complete bike doesn't come with a dropper.

@oldfart Full build. The Payoff is a 27.2mm seatpost and the full build isn't offered with a dropper; I have a spare carbon seatpost and they're pretty good at softening the ride - that'd be of more use to me.

The Onza’s look decent but the Revs are the old 32mm and Reverb externally routed right?
