Not used the FS for a while, got it out and the front hub (2012 Lefty) sounds like rustling leaves! Not good! Anyone know about these?

Sometimes the little nylon washer on the main bolt needs a bit of grease. Sometimes can make a noise.

Or could be shot bearings if it's making a rustling sound.

Yeah, probably the bearings. Struggling to find any useful info on the web re. servicing, although judging by the exploded diagram in the Supermax manual it looks pretty simple.

Hopefully will hold up for a bit as I've got 3 days in Wales from tomorrow!

The DS bearing can often get a bit full of muck or the washer may just need to be seated properly/ greased on the NDS. It is basically a shell with two bearings pressed in, so is not rocket surgery 🙂

I have the prong tool for removing the NDS cap on the older style hubs and you are welcome to borrow if near Bath (and the newer hubs use a similar design)

Yes, if you both mean what the manual calls the "outer bearing seal" on the NDS - it had come adrift and was responsible for the racket. Greased and pushed back into place as you can access it without taking apart the hub. Thanks!!

It's a new-ish Supermax hub, looks like you only need the Shimano freewheel tool to take it apart. Looks very simple & bearings are cheap so will give it a full service when I get back from Wales, thanks for the offer for the tool though!

If you do replace the bearings yourself remember that the cap is opposite thread. 🙂

Thanks, the manual does mention that, easily forgotten though I'm sure!
