Was definitely a miserable day to be riding a pushbike! Did anyone spectate?

Hoping to catch a bit tomorrow if the boss let's me out for an hour or so but not today. (if all goes to plan I'll convince the boss to let me go watch the ladies head through in the morning and he can go watch the gents in the afternoon.)

Bloody awful weather though today so can't say I'm disappointed not to have been able to make it.

One of the more exciting finishes I've seen in a while.

It looked very wet and caught a glimpse of a river with water up to the bank so hope tomorrow is better for you. TV coverage wasn't brilliant though, wobbly camerawork etc but, yes, an exciting finish.

Well it's banging it down at the moment in Barnsley. I was going to help with the local primary school ride to watch but have a 500 mile round trip to Wales instead

New team Sky sponsor opened his mouth and instantly proved what a massive male chicken he is, Brailsford needs to park him way in the background pronto.

Tracey - great that there's a local school ride and hope they will be in good voice for cheering.

Pete - didn't catch what the tax exile said but sounds bad!

The Wife will be standing on top of Otley Rd out of Harrogate (as they come past the old water tower) tomorrow..

Weather looks same as today, so a typical Yorkshire day then..

She's made fresh scones and is taking a bottle of wine too, so if she's dribbling crumbs and slurring a lot you'll understand why 💁‍♂️🥴

I'll be out there today. Technically I'm working but I've been invited to a bike networking event so I'm riding over to Harrogate, watching the race then riding back. A hard life... I'll watch the women come through north Leeds before I set off.

Yesterday looked grim - I was stuck inside all day but could hear the rain hammering down.

Don't work Fridays so will probably head out from Leeds and watch the women come through cote de Leathley. Have to be back for the school run so will miss the men's race in the afternoon.

The motorbikes were having a hard time keeping it rubber side down, it was torrential in places. Roads were like a river. I'm driving one of the cars and yesterday I could see the police, NEG and camerabikes going sideways on more than one occasion.

Only on the Men's race today so I get the morning off to watch the Women's on TV. Driving on both tomorrow, it'll be a long day!

Great finish yesterday, if they'd had 100m more road to catch the break it would have been a very different outcome.

As long as Ineos are involved I've switched off. Shame on several levels.

What a pic!

That sounds a great experience crazy-legs, really being so close to the action but pretty stressful I'd imagine with such horrible weather. Dare I ask what it's doing today?

There's been some heavy rain in the Skipton area but it's eased off now for the moment. Yesterday we had one or two very heavy showers but most of the time while the riders were enduring downpours we were in sunshine.

It's heading through my part of North Yorkshire tomorrow, with strong winds forecast and some rain.

Once they are out of Whitby they go through Sandsend, right on high tide. If the wind has made for a stormy sea then it can look a bit like this:

Sandsend

Right before they have to climb this:

Lythe Bank

You might as well give up watching all professional sport then. Or do you vet every sponsor, share holder, employee ect,ect of every team to see if their worthy of your precious attention.

Easing off here in Harrogate for them which is good. Pot bank will be like a river if its still raining when they get there, very much short and steep but a few awkward bends and a narrow bridge too. Be great spectating but I don't envy them racing round it and there are a few tight bends in town too which will be fun in the wet, inbox a group, at race pace.

Watching the women on tele till I wander round to the valley gardens entrance to watch them whizz past twice,
Then same again for the men this afternoon.
P.S ..... Ineos don’t have a women’s team so you could at least support them, especially in this weather.... some top TOP riders in the field this year

Should be a cracking place to watch, it's a heck of a bend up onto valley drive as they come off Cornwall Road, though I assume they've taken the islands out and valley drive will feel huge without all the cars parked up it.

Is it just me that has a wry smile every time the leaders appear and their current order means the teams appear as BIG BUT. Not being sexist btw, I'd be just as amused if the men's race had this.

Creg - if they're passing Sandsend any time after three, it will look like that first pic.

Sandsend

I've been barreled driving my car down that road before now, and on Saturday it's reasonably big tides and a 10 ft swell, 11 second period which translates some pretty big lumps of water round these parts (have I mentioned I'm a surfing surfer who surfs, yes a surfer..?) It's only a short section and it would be a huge shame if they divert the race, but if I was an organiser I'd be wanting them there before the tide filled in too much... [on edit: though it's no worse than having a bucket or two of salty brown water chucked at you. I'd ride through it.]

Fish and chips and a pint as well for me.

I presume you campaign outside Ineos HQ on a regular basis? I mean, they'd still be making plastic and petrochemicals whether they sponsored a cycle team or not...

Pop over to the Direct Energie bus too and protest about Total too while you're at it.

"A North Yorkshire brewery has promised the winning riders their height in beer"

I wonder how they work that out then, barrels one a top the other would be rather generous but if it's in hipster glasses it could easily only be 2 pints.

They came down valley drive and swing left onto Cornwall Road, all took it very gingerly... islands were out but Zebra Crossing obviously caused concern

A few slight showers and it's only about 7 degrees in a cold northerly wind bit the crowds are incredible. Harrogate in particular on the fully closed World Championship course but all the towns en route were amazing.

Yeah there were plenty of folk everywhere in the highlights this evening which is great to see. Cav looked truly gutted in the post race interview, I really felt for him.

Yes, a block headwind up to Ellerby Bank, sleet on the tops in places. The Broom Wagon is full, in fact they had to do multiple drops back to teams.

Men's race put back a bit to get the vehicles back from Scarborough to Bridlington where it's currently lashing it down. Heavy showers and a cold northerly wind.

Oh God, it's torrential! Heavens have just opened properly. Crowds have vanished into every available cafe, shop and pub.

Well that was a very pleasing end. Feel sorry for lawless but always good to see the underdogs win, especially after they put in so much effort across the day in such company. Heck of a result for them and a great day's racing in both the men's and women's. Pleased to see crowds out for the ladies in shocking weather earlier too.

The weather even managed to look nice on the telly for both finishes despite being pretty awful.

Riders spread over half of Yorkshire... 😉
At least the weather is better. Still cold but the wind has dropped a bit and it's dry.

We do South, North & West Yorkshire today!

I reckon the crowds will be huge. It's been busy every day but now it's dry, it's a weekend and the course allows people to see it on both outward and return legs - see it at Skipton then cut across to Otley for example. Loads of places you can do that.

Looking forward to it, the roadside atmosphere has been amazing and in spite of continued media attempts to big up the anti-Ineos vibe, we've seen far more positive messages than protest banners.

What an unbelievable day. Crowds were massive. Tens of thousands of people. Driving up a couple of the climbs was really tense, trying not to hit anyone, trying to keep the car going. But an amazing atmosphere.

Really enjoyed watching them ride over the roads I used to ride on (not the Leeds segment)

Great to see soooooooo many people out to watch a bunch of cyclists clog up the roads 🤪

Slightly underwhelmed by the stage result, I'd rather see them punt it out between them than agree before the line.. But still, a very entertaining race and a great advert for Yorkshire.

Terrific event and pleased that the final day was dry although cold. The final k's were so exciting yesterday and well done to Lawless as well as the other Brits.

Remain optimistic that all those non-cyclists who turned out to spectate will be more kind to all cyclists they encounter on the road.
