Have always had CamelBak riding packs and fancied something a bit bigger than my Mule.

Have they stopped making Hawgs or am I missing something?

Sorry - should have said non-Pro. The pro stuff only comes in boring colours.

I’ve always had Camelbaks but they seem unable to stick with one design - they seem to regularly design from scratch rather than evolving a layout and solving its issues - the high means the stuff you liked about your current bag is gone.

New bag is an Evoc and really liking the quality and features plus it’s cooler, more comfortable and more stable than the camelbak. It’s one of the few without a back protector- Stage 18

£140 for a Camelbak? And that's AFTER the discount? Sheesh.

Aye, well. They do seem to insist on including a reservoir when I've already got several of those. The new Fusion reservoirs look good mind you.

That's much the same size as the Mule though, isn't it?

Apologies it is. Thought the mule was smaller

I know a few with osprey bags they seem pretty robust

I was a long time HAWG user until I discovered how blinking good Evoc backpacks are on a trip to the Alps. Bought a FR Freeride Blackline thing in a moment of madness (in XL, it has huge capacity). Way better than the HAWGs I had been using up until then. Far more stable, far better organised, back protector included and, far more comfortable when loaded up as a lot of the weight sits on your waist really due to the very wide waist belt rather than on your shoulders. The HAWG really had all the weight on the shoulders with the waist belt there to stop it moving around. Very different experience.

To be honest, the bag is too big for everything apart from multi-day rides where I've got to take some clothes and toiletries for overnight but it also means that I'm pretty much ready for anything while out ... pump, CO2 inflator, shock pump, multitool, tyre levers, tubeless repair kit, spare inner tube, tyre liner, full medical kit, buff, jacket plus 3 litres of water all fit in with plenty of spare space. Carries knee and elbow pads fairly easily when required as well.

Highly recommended.

I stopped buying Camelbak when they got bought out by a company that is a big NRA supporter. Pity, I liked their products.

Anyone know if Evoc packs have a little strap for keys?

Osprey sacs are great. 7 years and going strong here. Loads of useful features and not heavy.

Mine has a small mesh pocket at the top of the main store (where the pipe exit hole is) and in there is a plastic spring hook to securely fasten keys - so yeah keys, fastened, inside a small zipped section, inside a large zipped section.

My stage 18 has the plastic clip in he internal mesh pocket too. But it also has a small zipped mesh pocket on top of the open mesh side pocket and my keys go in there

I use both Camelbaks and Evocs.

I must agree, the Evoc packs are superior in many ways.

I've been solely Camelbak for years, but tempted by an Evoc FR Enduro 16l - can see that the Blackline is supposed to have extra features over the standard FR Enduro, but can't find out what they are. Any idea?

Ditto, although not willy waving I think mine is now 10 years old. It looks its age but nothing has worn or broken except a buckle which I trod on numerous times. Really comfy (even for running), well laid out. I think this is the new version and at half the price of the Camelbak I know what I'd be buying...

I'd buy an Osprey if they were the same price.

Their stuff or Dakine's is my personal choice.

@theartistformerlyknownasstr

I’ve ridden with people wearing them but not had a proper look. I bought a stage 12 initially but sent it back as it’s exactly the same footprint as the 18 but very shallow so really difficult to put much in, and a lightly packed 18 is no bigger.

However, the back protector packs have a larger footprint and a larger (unstated) capacity in the larger sizes, and the back protector isn’t counted n the capacity. So the largest size black line “16” is actually 20l. It looks way bigger than my stage 18 in use.

They do look VERY big tbh - and probably sweaty. Might stick with my MULE for a while, it's not dead yet

Stage is probably the coolest pack I’ve used. Again, the back protector Evocs mostly look sweaty, except the Neo 16 but that one is seriously expensive
