You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Driving home the other day I passed my 16 yr old son on his BMX - riding along with his foot on the back wheel.
"What's wrong with your brakes" I said out of my window...
"Don't have any" was the response with a wry smirk!
I've got the best brakes possible on my bikes - because they allow me to go fast. I don't understand why you would remove your brakes - we live in a bloody hilly area for a start so it's all up or down.
My worry is that in order to look cool he's going to come a cropper and get wiped out at a junction.
What do you reckon? Fret or let him get on with it. Feel a bit irresponsible letting him go out on it 😐
i NEVER understand why groms run without brakes. at least not a rear anyway.
i'm sure brake pads are cheaper than etnies too!
Did a lap of llandegla red route brakeless.....not,not working. Not there.
Just for sheets and giggles.
I did'nt die (although the ride home was worse).
In BMX, most riders go brakeless because it forces creativity, flow and bike control.
Without having your brake available it forces you to learn your tricks differently, conserving momentum, balance and style to create a flow between tricks.
It is however a trickle down trend thing, and unfortunately you do see younger riders who have not yet learnt to ride with a rear brake trying to ride brakeless, however this style of "Jumping in the deep end" sometimes has the ability to produce amazing riders with god-like bike control at a very young age, so it's not all bad.
Brakes for fakes maaaaan
Doing quite a bit of track riding these days, getting used to it but only in controlled situations. Was impressed today at my 10 yr old though, first time on fixie, first time on track and first time on SPD's and all good 🙂 ..and first time no brakes !
