Was this a rule last year? I'm sure I saw people BBQ'ing last year! Either way, I was planning on taking a BBQ this year. I guess that wont be happening now 🙁
gas grill?
Thats for the new family camping field.
The rules are listed under both cheap field and family field and talks of camping fields
Anyway...
"strictly no open fires, no BBQ’s, no gas BBQ’s and no naked flames"
Does that include a camping stove? i.e. for brewing up coffee, maybe bit of bacon for breakfast.
Can understand concern with big flames from BBQs or open fires though.
Surely you are allowed a camping stove? How else are we going to make a brew or heat up our little one’s milk?
It’s my fault for not checking, but after finding out this week that all people who camp have to be off site by 9am Monday morning a bit ridiculous, this doesn’t actually surprise me......
Truth is, if i knew it was this regimental, i probably wouldn’t have booked it.
Middle of a heat wave and very dry ground would probably be sensible to have some fire restrictions. It's kind of a total fire ban style ruling from an Aussie perspective
No one came round to turf us out on Monday morning last year. We were off earlyish any way though as we were up and there was nothing else to do.
Fire restrictions with regards to BBQ and open fires are sensible. If it extends to camp stoves etc it's a little draconian.
If people are there from thurs/Friday to Monday that's a long time to expect them to eat cold food / drinks or buy solely from vendors on site.
If it extends to camp stoves etc it’s a little draconian.
To be fair I'd struggle to knock a BBQ over*, they're big and stable. I kick my camp stove over alarmingly frequently. Fine on wet grass, but would be a disaster in a tinder dry field full of tents!
*although really it's the separate risk of the heat igniting the grass underneath it that's probably the worry, even on sand they've been known to set fire to grass roots under the surface and start fires 10's of meters away in the dunes as a result.

Not unreasonable to be off the site by then - the organisers need to tidy up - things like portaloos will be collected from whoever they were hired from, etc. and having stragglers getting in the way isn't going to help. I don't know if the event requires a license but if it does then that may only run to 9am on Monday.
Didn't attend last year but on previous occasions never had any problems with BBQs. Think as long as your sensible and it remains under control and a sensible distance for tents/vehicles etc it's not an issue.
I’m taking my camping stove for sure. No way I’m paying for a brew every morning!
Might chuck a patio slab in the van to keep it on, they shouldn’t be able to moan about that!

i think its more to do with peoples inability to tell the difference between a gas bbq and a charcoal one - they see bob with his gas bbq and assume their charcoal one will be ok - its also difficult to tell at a distance if its charcoal or gas.
easier just to ban them all then there is no ambiguity
TBH if you listen to the experts on here theres no such thing as a gas bbq its just an outdoor oven.
*gas bbq'r and proud 😉
ill be taking a stove. got to be very careful though.
From a post on their Facebook page
"Hey Sam, due to the recent weather and increased risk of a serious fire, the authorities have asked us to ban naked flames on the camp site. Thanks"
Seems very sensible.
Good! At least nobody will be smoking 🙂
No way I’m paying for a brew every morning!
raw tea it is then.
*We get our cold water from the hot tap , that way it saves wear and tear on the cold tap* 😀
I can't imagine it being too rigorously enforced as regards small camping stoves and sensible usage but having the rule in place does mean they can reasonably enforce it where people are taking the mick with huge barbeques and the like. Of course they may crack down hard but i can't see it personally.
