Has anyone had any similar riding experiences on both these frames? (Maybe changed from one to another). The chance of a lovely alloy Air 9 has come up, but the kid in me still sees that black and white carbon air 9 and wonders if anyone would by a kidney to pay for one!
Is there a discernible difference?
Sell the kidney.
Works of Art, but you'll ruin it if you ride it 😆
Have a mate whose got an Orange one, lovely looking bike, rigid and SS, lovely and light and quick in his hands too. I had a SS One9 Scandium for 4 years and both bikes weighed the same (almost) and yet for some reason I preferred mine, but then it was kitted out with RDO all over and XO carbon cranks etc.
TBH, the Airs a bit expensive and I have heard a few tails of cracks around the seat post, not that I've seen any nor my mate having any issues with his, just sayin'..
Also, the BB, make sure it's the twin pin new one and it's been fitted using plumbers paste as they have a tendency to slip and creak if it's the old single pin one.. of course this only applies if you SS it.
Help?
I'll keep an eye on the thread if you ask more questions.
There used to be a few of us Niner fanbouys on here at one point in time, not heard from them in a while but sure enough they'll pop out if the word Niners mentioned. 😆
Less elegant version of Bikebuoy's post based on a friend's RDO frame (and reading too many threads on MTBR)....
... They are very expensive for how cracky they seem to be. Probably ok but I wouldn't touch one secondhand
How tall are you?
A mate of mine is selling a black and white carbon one right now in XL. It's not been ridden much as it was his second bike.
Can't speak for the air 9 but have the new rdo version and the reason I jumped from 26" to 29er... First one bought 2nd hand from USA but noticed it had some funny makes under the lacquer looking like finger prints so contact Niner... To cut a long story short they offered to replace the frame via jungle... 2nd to none for service! 🙂
Niners cracking?! Not seen one yet! Where as my old specialized s-works suffered a cracked frame and seen a few in the club ride with go back on warranty replacements :-/
Never tried the carbon but the alloy Air 9 that I had had a terrible finish on it for a supposedly premium frame.
You only had to look at the frame and it would chip or scratch.
From a riding point of view, it never seemed to ride very well whether it was running either a rigid or 100mm suspension fork. I can't say exactly what it was but it just seemed to feel awful in any kind of riding.
I sold mine and replaced it with a Pivot LES. I wish I'd went with one of these in the first place as it's a much, much better bike.
Hey there, a while ago you said you had a PF30 EBB, do you still have it by any chance?I sold mine and replaced it with a Pivot LES. I wish I'd went with one of these in the first place as it's a much, much better bike.
