Hi all,
Got out at the weekend for the first time in a while (Snowdon for sunrise) and had forgotten how much I love riding bikes for fun. Will be looking to squeeze some riding in and about a busy schedule over the next couple of months, meaning that making use of the long evenings and maybe extending into night rides will become a necessity.
Based in south Manchester, where would you go to get a 2hr fix? Can either take the CX bike with semi slicks, or the 140mm hardtail. Riding from the door is preferable, but up to a half hour drive is doable.
Ta!
Literally a million options.
Roman Lakes and stuff around Werneth Low/Marple/Hague Bar
--- Lots of CX-able tracks around there including over Cown Edge to Hayfield.
Macclesfield Forest.
--- Some bits are closed at the moment, but still some good options for any bike.
Lyme Park.
--- Some tracks are open over summer evenings, others are cheeky. Lots to go at.
Then further into The Peak there are a million more options
The other way you can get to Delamere Forest. Best get a gpx for that (or meet someone who knows it).
For a quick CX style blast then pick a canal and follow that!! Got pointed to a nice loop from Stockport to Marple then back down the canals to the city centre, the TPT is a bit of a faff getting out of the city but out west it got going out of Hadfield
Without sounding all bike stealy, where in south Manchester are you?
I'm proper time crunched at the moment so struggling to get out on the MTB and if i do then i feel like i'm not getting the miles in that i need to maintain fitness (yes, i'm an idiot)
From where I am in Sale it's ~45 mins to Marple/Roman lakes down the TPT and i've been meaning to then do a loop round there then ride home. Should be about 50k in total and 700m of climbing.
Infact, is the MNPR in Marple tonight? I might ride out there for that on the crosslight
Also based in Sale @scaled, we'll have to get together for a ride!
Cheers all for the input, will have a look round. I know there's most likely tonnes of stuff, but it's nice to apply the STW filter to stop me wasting time on naff stuff 😉
You can put some good CX routes together round Cheshire south of you - bridleways round the airport, Mobberly, peover, Alderley edge etc.
Bradford La and Swiss Hill in Alderley if you fancy showing your class on the cobbles.
As soon as i get my tow bar fixed then i'll be back out on the MTB, bad timing where i SORNed my bike hearse one day then broke the tow ball on the wifes car the next!
In the meantime i'm stuck riding the cx bike or getting a lift, drop me a PM and i'll give you a shout if i get out to play locally
