Did you head to the tip specifically for a rummage among the bikes?
I remember folks used to pick off all the gold as it was just a plastic dip stuff, nice(well as nice as a burner could be) chrome frame underneath.
I had gone to the tip to recycle a shed load of cardboard. Finding it was a happy accident, I threw it in the back of my car when no one was looking.

Wow! What did you use to strip that down and make it look so shiny?
Nitromors, an ice scraper, more nitromors. Then aluminium foil and Coke (the real stuff) Much rubbing and arguments about where all the foil went.
Then Autosol and a polishing mop in my drill gently buff it up and hand finish with a microfiber towel.
It's not perfect but I figured a 30'odd year old patina lends to the look, at least that's what I'm telling myself. My OCD was crying out for it to be re chromed 🙁
Its turning out to be a money pit tbf, was going to lightly restore it for nostalgic reasons.
