looking for a set of long burntime road lights.
not bought any road lights or indeed any lights for years.
what's good?
a good dyno set up then it would burn for as long as you could ride .
i thought as much Chris, i will have a word with Spa and get a wheel built i think.
The man from Spa told me to fkcu off and slammed the phone down on me when I enquired about dynamo wheels earlier. Might be worth giving it a day or so until things calm down for them (him).
You can get 700c/Shimano n80 wheels from Rose for about £60 if that fits the bill.
how long we talking? On my roadbike I use an older (it's over 2 years old now and cost £12) single XLM chinese 2 mode light and on medium (way bright enough for most situations) and occasionally using full for 40mph+ descents it does me for 6hr+ night road rides. can't tell you exactly how long it lasts as it's never even reached the orange low battery glow on me .
I could probably find a link to it if you want one.
Dynamo lights were my 2014 most awesomez purchase!
Which dynamos do people go for? Exposure ones any good?
I've got an Exposure, it's just a re-branded Shutter Precision, not read a bad review or seen any real issues.
I'm also interested in a dynamo wheel. The SP hubs seem to be well regarded, but the only thing that put me off is that the bearings are not user serviceable. You have to post the wheel off to the manufacturer and it has to be disassembled and rebuilt as part of the bearing replacement. I've had wheels where a good dose of winter weather has killed cartridge bearings quite quickly. I don't mind that too much if I can knock them out and press a new set in myself, less keen if I have to post it off and get the wheel rebuilt.
I believe the Shimano hubs are officially non user serviceable, because of the electrical connection on one side, but you can open them up and re-grease the cup and cone bearings if you are careful.
