I'm looking at an old Carrera Subway which has Nexus hub gears and hub brakes - anyone know about them, any quirks or problems I should know about before I chance my arm?

Just wondering in case there was a really good reason they switched to Alfine hubs and discs!

Cheers

Cheers - I'm not fussed about having discs on a commuter, just wondering if there were any nightmares about the hub brakes.

That's a roller brake. I've used them on the rear on mtbs. Can be reasonable performance especially in dirty conditions. Sort of like a coaster brake with cable operation.
