Had a new road bike twho months and now covered around 450miles. When is a good idea to have the lbs (or myself) give it a once over. Is this ever actually necessary, I already care for the chain cleaning/lubung an deep an eye on headset tightness, crank tightness etc. also keep an eye on brake blocks.

Just wondering how long I can expect it to run trouble free. I assume most tyres, chains, jockey wheels etc last for around 2000 miles?

depends how you use it. Keep it dry and clean and it'll go years without needing anything serious done. 450 miles is nothing on a road bike.

About now for a tune up, cable stretch and bedding in of all bits should have happened, after this tbh depends on how much/hard you ride personally I like to fettle my bikes myself on an ongoing basis, if something doesn't feel right I fix it and generally keep things running smooth all the time.

Example for the as and when I am pretty hard on bottom brackets (low revolution speed but high gear) but brake pads will last me for years,

I do think there's something pretty satisfying/theraputic about sorting your own bikes too and having 6/7 in the house between the family it saves a fortune too

It should be fine for a long time. Over the summer months I probably do about 450 miles in a couple of weeks and I rarely touch my bike. Just pump the tyres up and oil the chain every now and again. I might give it a clean every 3 to 4 months.

Mine has just gone in today for the first time in 5 years and has been trouble free up to now with basic looking after at home.

Keep everything clean and lubed, especially in winter and you should be fine.

6000km on mine & it's had a new BB & a new rear tyre.

Oil the chain every now & then, it's good to go 🙂

Just over 5km on mine, i've changed a blown tyre but other than that it's still as it was although i do remember having a tinker with the indexing a couple of years back.

I was considering stripping it down, re-greasing and reassembling over the winter as a couple of little creaks have developed that bug me slightly.

Sounds like you've got it covered 🙂

Won't need a lot unless something starts making a noise. It's worth keeping an eye on chain wear, but should last at least a couple of thousand miles and much more if used only in good weather.

Great, thanks everyone, just wanted to be sure. Have re-tightened the cranks around every 50 miles due to creaking (FSA), apart from that she's rosey, but will keep it all monitored. Looking forward to many more trouble free miles buthe sounds of it.
