You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Having enjoyed my cannondale trigger for the past 3 years I decided I would like to have a simple hardtail for days doing medium distance xc rides like glentress black etc. I've previously had a cotic soul and an orange R8 which was particularly good so I wanted to build something similar but a little more burly.
My first thought was to sell the trigger but I quickly realised that I'd never get another bike as capable as it for the bargain price I paid. That being the case I decided to sell one of my road bikes and create a budget build with ebay as the main source of components.
Initially I had intended embracing all the newest trends like boost spacing, plus tyres and 1x but when I tried a plus bike I found it far heavier and sluggish compared to hardtails I'd had in the past and therefore I decided to stick with standard 27.5 wheels that I could also swap with the trigger if ever required. I then started to question whether the other trends were necessary and I decided to build the bike that was right for my needs while also taking advantage of the cheap 2x parts on ebay that were being discarded in favour of 1x groupsets. This being the case I needed a frame without the new standards so after considering souls, stantons, p7s and shans I ended up with a heavily discounted new Pace rc127 frame.
Combined with some canny ebay buys and a few parts I already had, I finished it today am really pleased with the result. It'll have its first outing at Laggan next weekend.

Total build price? And don't lie.
Argh. Got halfway through listing all the prices when my phone ran out of battery. Here we go again.
frame including headset and seat clamp £412 (new)
Fork £250 (second hand unused)
Wheels and tyres £220 (second hand - wheels unused)
SLX brakes and clarks rotors £90 (second hand)
Xtr bits £220 (second hand)
XT bottom bracket £11 (new)
SLX front mech £15 (second hand unused)
Bars and stem £42 (new)
Seat post £72 (new)
Chain and cassette (spares for the trigger that I bought on ebay ages ago)
Saddle (from the road bike I sold)
So I think about £1350 - 1400 when postage for bits and pieces is included. I'm happy enough with that. The sale of half the road bike bits has already covered it and I'm sure this'll bring more smiles per mile.
I must admit to being partial to stealthy builds.
As well as stealthy yours also has a nice classy look to it.
The non remote dropper wouldn't be for me put it does have its merits of course!
Nice build mate. 👍
Damnit!
Just typed a reply and lost it....
In summary: Nice stealthy and classy looking build mate. 👍

Thanks. It wasn't really intended to be stealthy but due to the parts available it just ended up that way. There were 2 choices of frame colour but once I'd decided on xtr I felt It wouldn't fit quite as nicely with neon pink and blue.
In terms of the dropper, it's a bit of an experiment. I wasn't willing to spend loads and often find that I don't use the one on my trigger between stops that much. I've been stung by buying a second hand one before that didn't work as it should so wasn't prepared to take the risk again.
