OK, this is not really new bike day, cos I got it back in April.  But I bought it off the back of the 'eBike - buy now or not' thread and I thought folk might be interested in how it goes.

It's a Raymon TrailRay 140e 10.0 29 that I got from Pauls Cycles.  I couldn't do C2W as our scheme has an upper limit of £1k so I paid my own hard earned cash for it, £2,133 inc delivery. It's a heavy old beasty, coming in at 26 odd kg according to my scales.  An awful lot heavier than my old bike (Giant 29er hardtail) and makes my son's burly Ragley 27.5er feel like it's made out of feathers or carbon fiber instead of the scaffold tubes it's actually hewn from.

The Raymon has the Yamaha PW-X3 motor with 250W, 85Nm.  It's got a 720Wh battery, a dropper and RockShox air bouncy bits at either end.  First full sus bike I've ever owned, first electric bike too - and I have to say I really like it.  I've ridden it a fair bit including a few trips up to Hamsterley which is our local trail centre.  It copes OK towing my fully grown adult son up the steep bits, I was out by myself at the weekend and did the full red route there for the first time - ever.  We always do the best bits of the black and red, ignoring the fire road slog from the old Descend hut.  I can see why I've avoided that section in my previous 30 odd years of going up there, but quite enjoyed it on the eBike.  Still couldn't recommend it on a human powered one though.

21 miles there on Saturday gone, 2,316ft of climbing according to Strava and still had half the battery left.  I'm about 14 stone for reference.

It feels totally different to my old hardtail.  I didn't know if I'd want to keep both bikes but I think I've decided the old one's going on eBay, I haven't used it at all since getting the new one.  I Zwift a few times a week on a roadbike in the garage, think that fulfills my normal bike needs nowadays.  FS is much better for my back as I have some spine issues and the e assist is amazing.

It was a tough job fitting the new bike in the back of my company car (Megane ETech - still a squeeze with the front wheel off) so on the back of the fact that the bike was a bit of a bargain (comparatively speaking) and taking someone's advice on the eBike thread, I took the opportunity to upgrade our fun car from an old MX5 to an old orange Fiat Panda.  Because if you buy a cheap bike you've got more to spend on other stuff!  Put a towbar on it and a foldy up Buzzrack (also a recommendation from here) and life has become much easier and better.

Happy with the eBike and the service from Paul's, quick delivery, etc, nothing's fallen off it or stopped working so far.  6/5 stars, would recommend.

That looks great for the cash

I'm bashing about on my dad's nakamura cross trail xa. Straight out of intersport  It was €2k  and has an in-house motor , shit forks and a shit suspension seatpost but an impressively utilitarian ride and incognito looks but makes that raymon look like an absolute steal

Yup, it felt like a bit of a bargain at the time.  Internally I was still smarting about paying more than £2K for a bike, but in the scheme of things it was cheaper and better specced than the brands I'd heard of.  I'd also been looking at the Cube Stereo HYBRID ONE44 as an alternative, it had the reassurance of a known brand and Bosch motor but no name suspension and another thousand pounds on top of what I paid for the Raymon, when the Raymons came back in stock at Paul's it was an easy decision to make in the end.
