A few months ago, I got the new bike itch and decided to replace my much loved but third-hand Cotic Soda. Previously owned by Northwind, this had been a great bike but was feeling a little long in the tooth.

After a bit of research I decided on building up a Stanton Switchback Ti.  I wanted a bike that was long, low and slack - but not as progressive as some of the latest hardtails (E.g. Cotic Longshot geo), as good as they might be.

To complete the build I used the brakes, drivetrain and bars from my Soda, plus some new forks, wheels and dropper post (Thanks geex.).  Most of the choices I am very pleased with, although the Ohlins forks are going to cause a little hassle...

So nearly two months after the initial build was finished - here are some pictures for those who might enjoy them.

Since these were taken, I have changed the tyres for my current favourite Magic Mary and Hans Dampf and the Hope Enduro wheels for some Hunt Enduro Wide.  Due to some ill health it’s only been ridden a very short distance very slowly, but it feels ‘right’.

Bike 1

Bike 2

Fence and lawn comments expected.😉

I think it's more brexit and gadget smugness in this forum, and it might just be on android but your photos look weenie.

Either way it reads like you have built a beast, enjoy 😁💪

Hard to beat the nice clean lines of a bike built with straight Ti tubes.

That looks ace, dream bike spec! What's the problem/potential problem with the Ohlins?

Lovely, Ti + Black is a classic look. Do the hunt wheels have less stickers? The hopes look a little garish on an otherwise stealthy bike.

That looks a nice build.

I'm still running my Ti456 (Van Nic gen) as my winter bike but was wondering about a more modern geometry bike - closer to my full-sus perhaps. And I do like the feel of the Ti.

@jamj1974 - what wheel size and tyre width does that frame take out of interest?

Cheers guys.

Facian.  The Ohlins are being recalled for a fix to ensure the air side top cap is securely tightened.

The Hunt wheels are really stealthy Tom.  Very low key indeed.  I changed them not because of the aesthetics - more because I want to try a 2.6” - 2.8” tyre in the future.

Vmgscott.  It takes 27.5/650b wheels up to 2.8” in width.

Ah that's a little annoying, but hopefully a quick fix!

Is it performing well though?

There's something timeless about the lines of a simple Ti hardtail that never fails to be just "right". Marvellous, in a world of suspension "systems" and e-bikes, that is a thing of joy.

You must be well chuffed
