So I converted my gravel bike to tubeless but it didn’t go too well. The rear tyre (g-one bite tle) had a small hole in it which I thought I’d manage to fix using sealant (60ml). However as soon as I set off sealant sprayed all out the hole and the tyre lost loads of pressure.

So now I’m thinking I need one of those repair plug things? I’m a bit surprised as the sealant I used (orange endurance) claims to seal holes 1/4 inch which this definitely isn’t!

Did I mess something up or is it all b*llocks 😉 cheers

leave the hole at the bottom, so the sealant can do its job, have a cup of tea/wine/rum then return and reinflate. If it still jizzes like a pro then whip the tyre off and patch the inside.

as in 6mm? I would be amazed if sealant could deal with a 6mm sized hole.

Tyre pressure.

The sealant's got to have time to do its job, the relatively high pressures and low volume of air in CX/Gravel/road tyres mean that the tyre will be flat before the sealant gets to work. A 6mm hole is sealable on a fat bike tyre but probably not on a gravel bike's tyre because of the very low pressures in the former.

Anchovies/tyre plugs are an essential part of the tubeless toolkit. Either get one of the old style applicators or splash out on one of the newer fancy jobs like the Dynaplug or Stans Dart. Learn how to use them on an old tyre.

So I ended up getting the muc off tubeless repair kit - installed one of those little rubber strips and it sealed fine! Went for first tubeless ride last night and loved the lower pressures.

Cheers for the help
