don't like to road ride this time of year when it's too sunny.

I went for a gravel ride on my XC bike, starting the year as I don’t mean to go on. 30 miles and 3,700ft of ascent. I was beginning to fade a bit towards the end.

Got stuck into roof repairs... and now with 1hr of light left, sacked off the ride.

Rubbish really. Nothing says 'middle-aged grump' more than diy instead of a ride on new year's day. Roof was leaking though.

35 miles in rain, sun and gloom. Amazingly 14°C. Found a cafe open and apologized to the staff for going in and making their bosses decision to open justified by using them. Then got back to a mate's garden for the first beer of 2022.
If 2022 continues like this with bike, cake, coffee and beer I'll be happy.

We're on holiday, so I had a bit of an adventure. Planned a route on Komoot, but met another rider randomly and ended up going across the Moors. Sadly lost him as he was chasing a KOM on one section, and I took a wrong turn and ended up bimbling on the Moors as Komoot have me increasingly questionable advice! All good fun though.

Rode 56 road miles to the coast for a walk on the beach with friends. Our 15 year old came with me, my wife and our ten year old drove out to meet us.

Nice to get the first decent ride in early.

Good weather window in the middle of the day here in Inverness. We rode at Learnie on the Black Isle and it was as lovely as ever.

Took the tandem into town for lunch and back. I am so, SO out of shape, but a journey of a thousand miles and all that... 🙂

Managed 11 miles on local roads, and was massively important to me.

I was not far off getting out the door on the CX bike when the Nicest Man in Mountain Biking, Mr Nick Craig called round and asked if I wanted to come for what he termed a "gravel ride". He was on his full sus which didn't bode well but actually it was pretty steady away and it got me into a route I wouldn't have done otherwise.

He even managed not to drop me which was nice of him.

After a last minute decision to go away for NY, we had a great wee family ride at a slightly breezy Glenlivet trail centre today 😁

Set off nice n early to avoid the heat and had a great 3hr ride in the Redwoods, Rotorua. Best way to start the New Year. Lost GPS signal for some reason so tracking was incomplete.

As I insist on riding New Year's Day (I'm not superstitious at all but not riding on the first day of the year feels a bit wrong), it was a short local ride before we braved the traffic (bad idea) and headed to the coast for a walk.

Every year I set some arbitrary rules for my silly little 'A Photo A Ride' project (it's its ten year anniversary this year). This year's are... 4:3 Aspect Ratio, a riding selfie, a wide shot and a macro from somewhere in that wide shot.

Managed a ride around Sherwood forest. First ride in ages and glad I chose the shorter option, was shattered for the rest of the day.
Good start but no pic, does that mean it didn't happen?

Did 100km of gravel/backroads round the New Forest. Nice to ride somewhere new to me, even if though it’s sub 90mins from home.

I didn’t manage out, but I did a stint on the turbo (zwift) drenched in sweat after that.
Decided to shuffle the other bikes around to make accessing the turbo easier, so i put the 2 ebikes at the back, so it’s the 2 cx bikes at the front. Those 2 need moved before i can get on the turbo, so I wanted to make it as easy as possible.
While doing this, i found some trousers that were previously too tight round the waist, so i tried those on, and i can now fit my fingers in the waistband, i decided i must have lost weight, so i found the scales, i have indeed lost 5kg since October.
Zwift, and paying attention to diet, are starting to pay off.
Mood= positive.

We rode out from Langsett, up onto Cutgate and back via North America.
The last part of the North America resurfacing hasn't been done as good as the rest and is a bit of a mess, from the green sign at the turn and the last bit down to the gate. Saw a few riders and walkers just avoiding it Riding and walking down the side of it.
