I'd like to buy a new wheelset for my rigid mtb but I can't seem to find what I want. My bike has a quick release front and rear and its the old skool tech: 9mm at the front I think and I've no idea what it is a the back.
Its a Pinnacle Ramin from 2015 - the same bike as this Ramin
Can some please help me finding a cheap(ish) wheelset for it? Or tell me what standard I need to go for. There's so many different standards and I'm getting lost 🙂
There doesn’t seem to be much in the way of specific info online, however I would imagine that if your front wheel is a 9mm QR, the hub width will be 100mm
Similarly, the rear hub is likely to be a 135 x 9. Best to get out a tape measure or ruler to check the width of the rear hub, my guess is that it’ll be either 135mm or 142mm. If it’s the former, the axle diameter will either be 9 or possibly 10mm, again, careful measuring will give you these dimensions.
Alternatively get in touch with Evans Cycles and someone will be able to confirm or deny the above musings! 😁
Evans should be able to tell you either way - I had a quick google and very limited info available online.
Zooming in on the picture it looks like it’s quick release front and back. So in all probability it’s 100 wide front and 135mm rear (unless some weird boost we in which case 141mm rear).
You’ll find some factory wheels still in that spec - something like a mavic cross ride might do the job. I’d probably look to get a custom wheelset from somewhere like CRC who often do good bargains - you can make sure you get nice modern rims then with a decent inner width.
It’s 135x10 rear. I’ve got one. I got some cheap wheels from planetx For mine.
You should find quite a good selection on eBay. I recently saw a lovely pair of Chris Kings at a bargain price but they were 135mm rear end and the conversion kit was silly money so I passed
Thanks for the replies, clarifications and suggestions Guys. Appreciate it.
I'll take a look at what planet x have to offer.
33tango... I have a brand new, unused 9mm QR front wheel that you can have for £5 + whatever the postage costs.
I forget what brand it is, but can have a look later and take pics if you want them.
It's been hanging in my shed waiting for a project for at least 10 years... looks like its never going to happen and I'd rather it went to someone who's going to use it.
Thanks for the kind offer Digger90 but I'm in Sweden and the postage cost would be nuts.
See if Superstar have anything.
35% still o to tonight I think
Also, you could consider buying hubs and rims separately and asking the LBS to build it for you. I've just had a new wheel built for my 26" hardtail using a Hope Pro 4 hub (QR, 135 x 9mm) and Mavic XM719 rim from CRC as they're on offer for £16 quid at the mo. A build should cost in the region of £30 plus £20-£30 for spokes and nipples.
