i have the chance of some new wheels for my mtb, with road tyres so I can bike to work, they are 26" same as mine but my current wheels have 180mm rotors, the new ones have 160mm will they be compatible, or do I have have to modify my bike to accept these wheels?
either you'd have to remove the brake adapters from the calipers and realign the calipers or swap the 180mm rotors to the new wheels (and probably realign the calipers).
don;t forget you'll need to move the cassette across too if it has any significant wear on it as the chain is likely to be worn 'to fit' too.
If you're planning to swap the wheels back at weekends it can get quite time consuming if you're fiddling around with caliper alignmets and cassettes even if you don;t have to move disks around too.
A new set of discs on the new wheels to match the size of the existing ones should make it all easy.
