So I’m looking to upgrade the wheels on my Whyte EBike
WTB rims on the wheels but cheap crap hubs
Have seen Hunt eBike wheel sets at a decent price and Silt eBike wheels
Both offer Mullet sets
Are these decent wheel sets or am I better spending the same cash with mibbe Hope or DT Swiss or something else as an upgrade
Cheers
Is it just me or do Silt and Scribe look awful similar
Same company. Scribe is gravel and road. Silt is MTB
I'd look at a custom built pair of EX511 rims on Hope or DT hubs, standard 32h J-bend spokes.
My Hope Pro 4/511s were £520 from Moonglu (v well built) and I don't think they'll have gone up much.
Well worth the extra £100ish over Hunt or whatever, IMO.
presumably you NEED a steel freehub for e-bikes ??
I opted for a pair of DT ex511's on 240 hubs at the end of last year and they've been spot on, would've been much cheaper with 350s which are very similar hubs for no real difference in performance. That'd be my recommendation.
As above if you are going alloy then the EX511 combination will take some beating for strength and durability. I'm not a big believer in the hype around E specific parts.
We have been running Turbo Levos since 2017 mostly on Sixth Element wheels and Hope hubs. My daughters wheels did 18 months Enduro racing from 2016 on her Specialized Enduro before they were transferred to her Turbo Levo which both her and her dad have hammered since and they are still running good and true. My old ones were still good when I sold the bike as they wouldn't fit the new mullet one.
I would certainly consider a steel freewheel if on an ebike.
All the DT Swiss "Hybrid" (ebike) wheelsets have these fitted as standard I think - mine came that way.
My hunt carbon proven ebike wheels haven't missed a beat
