Looking for some new wheels. Normally i go for Hope hoops and DT combo, but maybe fancy a change, i also want to run tubeless with the minimum of faff.

So, do i go for the silly expensive Mavic SX's, or the Hope hoops with Flow rims? Also anyone think the staright pull hubs are worth the extra over the Pro2's?

Have the latest SX's and CK + Flows. Prefer the SX's - pick up is v quick, they are very stiff, they work better tubeless, and best of all they look mighty pimp!

Got old SX's and they're probably the best upgrade I've ever put on a bike. I also have some 28 hole 819's on Pro2 and DT swiss hubs, and they're good too.

Why not consider either an 819, or 823 build as an alternative, if you prefer standard spokes, and non-specific mavic parts etc.

heihei, are the SX's lighter than the CK + Flows?

mildred, 823 are too much rim and the 819 profile is a little narrow 🙁

All depends on the spoke you use. I built with the triple butted super comps, which brings the weight into pretty much the same, although you need rim tape with the flows.

SXs are great, the stiffness is really noticeable and tubeless is a cinch. I'm pretty convinced that the aluminium spokes give a very unique feel.

Hey fallguy

I have a froggy, did you really shed 4 pounds of weight? was that mainly the tyres? as i use 2.5 maxxis high rollers Double wall

How much weight did you save in the wheels alone?

Just got it last week, Put bike on scales and it was 37ib. so took wheels and tyres off and put them on the scales, the front wheel weighs around 1500g and the rear is 1700g +. Bike back on scales tonight 33.06, Not bad i thought.

Mavic sx 2.2 tubeless rubber queens and an xt cassette was fitted, oh and cut an inch off seat pin.

P.S had to get shims machined as the sx comes with standard qr or 12mm axle but Kermit's got a 10mm rear axle.
