Those Hunt (trail 30mm) wheels do look damn nice with excellent detail in parts spec and finish and they come in an ideal (for my needs) 30mm.
Hopes new Fortus make the 30mm rim the heavy duty reinforced model which I don’t want so I’d need to choose the 26mm or 35mm.
But having Hope back up is handy.
Hmmmmm...
Just received some hunt trail wide wheels myself. They look really great in the flesh, fast hub engagement (which I really like) and they've been great when I had a couple of queries. I haven't ridden them yet, but the value/quality/weight/feel good factor is all in the right ratio so far!
watching with interest as I am also thinking about some new hunt trail wheels. I only wish you didn't have to buy a wheel set. My front wheel is just fine.
Agreed. I messaged them today as I wanted to know if they would supply a 27.5 R with 29 F. Answer definite no as they buy them in pairs only from Taiwan.
But having Hope back up is handy.
Feedback about Hunt customer service always seems very positive, as if they have looked at Hope as a model of how to do it. Unlike some other recent new entries into the bike market!
Had to get a rear wheel recently went for a Halo Vortex in the end as I could just buy the one and it was available from stock.
Seems good to me although it's the first time I've ever had to replace a wheel.
DT would be my first range to look at. Best rims and hubs out there at the moment, and plenty choice in rim widths with different strength/weight options for each width.
Ive been using Hunt XC Wide 25mm boost/non boost combo wheels since last November, and am happy to report they are great set of wheels, proven to be wide enough and strong enough for my aggressive trail use and weight. I had a nipple pop couple of weeks back under sharp braking, and replaced that and the spoke directly with spares they ship (I have a jig from Wheelpro days). I then contacted Hunt about this and they where fantastic, immediately sending out a spare spoke/nipple and tape to replace the spares I used. I've just purchased a boost rear only (One Wheel) for a new frame, and the whole process of dealing with Hunt has proved satisfying and trustworthy. So far so good for me.
Aren't Hunt just chinese wheels?
Novatech hubs on Alex rims I belive. Notthing wrong with that; reliable and reasonable weight, but they seem expensive given this fact.
With Hope you get a hub manufactured in the UK in a choice of colours with ace customer service.
I'm in the market for a new 29er wheelset, so interested in peoples thoughts and rational too.
Slight thread hijack... have a brand new set of 650b boost hope fortus 35 wheels for sale. 350 delivered or collect from sheffield or derby way for less.
I asked a question on here about widest tyre on the current 23mm Hopes and Hope said 2.5/2.6 a definite no no.
I'm hoping the 26mm will be OK maybe with these then as ny choice of tyre would always be between 2.4 to 2.6 - as above the 30mm downhill/HD Fortus is overkill and the 35mm too wide for me.
I have always had eyelets too which is a bonus with the Hope - ever since the M231 days (!) and I know many say not needed but just like them, illogical as it may be.
Personally I’d get a wheelset built up - I recently built a set myself - Hope Pro4 hubs with Dt Swiss xm481 rims. You know the hubs have got good support and DT Swiss rims are about the best out there at the moment. Built them with DT Swiss competition j bend spokes so easy to get spares for.
Hunt are pretty good - they aren’t just Chinese wheels as such as mentioned about. They start with a novatech hub design but I believe they upgrade the bearings / add extra seals on some of the models. I thought the road rims they use are Kinlin rather than Alex.
They are hand built in Taiwan rather than machine built.
I mashed up one of their road rims on a horrendous pot hole - within a couple of days I had a crash replacement rim in my
hands so can’t fault the service.
I'd have a chat to the extremely reasonable and friendly guys at DCR wheels near Lewes.
I popped by yesterday for a "lifetime free re-truing" session and the care going into wheel builds was amazing.
I've had lots of wheels built there now and although I can do it myself I can't do it like they do. amazing care and attention to detail. A great discovery I find.
very throughly recommended

Ther hunt wheels look good value at £350 for a prebuild wheel. I'm in the build your custom wheel camp though unless your getting a sweet deal.
Bought some Hunt wheels last week for the road bike, was disappointed that they arrived not 100% true, there was a slight wobble in both wheels. Got them sorted by the bike shop and they do seem very good, but for 350 quid I'd expect them to arrive cock on.
Spokesman wheels seems to be pretty good :

A bit cheaper form his website I think :

Got two sets of Hunt wheels for the gravel bike. They're excellent for the price, light and seem well built. Customer service has been properly good.
Superstar are doing a deal on Stans rims built onto their own Uk made hubs this month, similar price to the Hunt wheels then.
Dunno why Hope have gone with such heavy new rims. Perhaps Brayton was smashing too many up?
If I had to get a new wheelset I'd put my hand in my pocket for DT rims handbuilt on Hope pro 4. Possibly EX511 rear and XM481 front.
Guys, I recommend you check out Strada handbuilt wheels, Great advice and first class wheel builder.
Hunt gave me crash replacement policy discount when I enquired about buying a rear only after my rear was totalled when a truck hit my bike on my towbar-Mounted rack.
I didn’t ask for a crash discount and they didn’t have to offer it
I've got a set of Hunt trail wide on my Ripley LS. They seem just a nice set of wheels, nothing too flash and I'm not afraid of trashing them given the price (£200 bargain) and the customer service seems spot on. I did put a slight dent in the front rim at bpw, but then realised I was only running them at about 15psi by mistake. Some quick work with the spanner and no lasting damage. Just about to take them to Finale, but put rimpact noodles in them to be safe.
