I am considering the purchase of a new set of wheels for my xc steed.

Would it look weird to have silver hubs and spokes with black rims? The last set of wheels I had with silver hubs and spokes also had silver Araya rims back in the 90’s

Please help!

It would look great, depending on the rest of the bike.

No, it'll be fine. Most modern bikes are boring so not boring things are good.

silver/grey brush effect Chisel. Black forks bars etc.

The current wonky wheels are black and all previous wheels for years on all bikes have been black.

I don’t normally worry about component colour compatibility, but for some reason I’ve been overthinking this one.

I only ever use silver spokes, so much nicer than black ones. I think it'll look grand.

Whatever works for you.
I’d favor black hubs and black rims with silver spokes.
All black would work.
silver hubs and spokes with black rims … maybe.

I used to prefer silver. The spokes are cheaper, a tiny bit lighter and don't show up mud or scratches so much. It regained popularity with the whole steel 29er singlespeed thing around 2010 and then went away again.

I'm old it seems. I remember all my bikes through the 80s and 90s being silver hubs and silver spokes. Over that times the rims gradually got darker. The Stays RM17 on my 1990 Team Marin were a medium grey. After that, Mavic were the go to aftermarket rim and the CD version was the best option. It was a very dark grey almost black hard anodised finish.

So, for a long time, wheels were exactly as you're planning and looked just fine.

Such wheels would look great on my raw alu with black girl bouncy bike, but I bit out of place on my stealth bomber of a carbon hardtail.

These were wheels I built for my Yeti back in 2017.
