My 19 year old daughter's Solaris Max v2.

She had a V1 but never rode it so I sold it! (Still getting grief for that). The V2 we 'shared' but with 140mm forks, heavy plus 2.8 tyres and super wide bars, she struggled with it a bit.

So after nicking most of the bits for my Bardino, this is a spares mongrel special! Wheels have at least 5000km on them, forks maybe a 1000km less, the XTR cranks are about 10 years old, while the Stem is both new and £13 off eBay!

As the forks were shortened, I've added a few spacers to raise the front end. At some point we'll try some 29s on it. Still for £40 (stem and one caliper) plus a spares bin raid of a few mates, I'm pretty happy with that. Oh and 660mm bars feel very strange indeed!

Today however it will not be getting a proper ride as it's snowing!

This is how it was. Noticeably slacker. So..

Forks shortened to 120mm (or possibly 100mm, I might need to pull them apart and check). Two lower leg services over 4 years and they were clean inside.

Magic Mary removed and replaced with a part worn Forecaster 2.6 that used to be on the back. Part worn 2.8 reckon on rear. We'll not be riding in lots of mud of rocks!

660mm carbon bars of unknown vintage.

XTR cranks with a chainring unearthed from a dusty spares pile. No idea where it came from.

150mm KS Lev post found on a shelf in a mate's garage.

Two generation old XT brakes needing a replacement caliper.

Bent SLX 11 speed mech 'persuaded' back into the right shape.

11-46 cassette which may stop some of the 'it's too hard to pedal up hills' whinging 😉

This is why I never throw anything away. One day there will be a need for a full 10 speed transmission for some project or other!

Sadly it’s more ‘fat rain’ than proper snow. Looks like the forest got a decent dump tho.

Nice that you can share bikes!

I hope you’ve told her use it or lose it (she’d be stupid not to heed the threat this time 🤪).

Make sure them forks are 120mm.

Hope she enjoys it, nice looking bike ifn yer ask me...

Will do. I’m sure we double checked when we changed them. Maybe should have triple checked!
