Hi Everyone
So while out on a ride this morning I noticed the side walls on my tyres are cracking & perished.. so think it might be time for some fresh tyres the tread is down as well.. It's a hard tail I use it mainly for 50/50 so road then rough tracks over the Moors etc.
So what would people recommend?
Thanks
Tom.
Semi slick rear, Specialized Slaughter, Schwalbe Rock Razor, Minion SS. Something a bit chunkier up front, depends how aggressively you ride. I quite like a Minion DHF or a Schwalbe Magic Mary
DHF front, rock razor rear for that usage.
Not a Mary.
Vittoria: Barzo / Mezcal
I’d probably go slaughter / minion ss rear. Front is the tricky one - a dhf is quite draggy on the road to / from trails. I’d be tempted to give a Forekaster a go - I’m using a 2.6” version for the rear of my hardtail as an all year round tyre. Dissector might do a job but I didn’t love it on the front - reckon the Forekaster is better in mud yet still rolls ok.
Pair of ardents. No way would I want anything proper chunky if half my riding was on road.
Tyres are about as personal as pants, but I'm running a Hans dampf up front and a minion ss at the back on my mkII Solaris, seems a nice summer set up to me.
I do something similar. Ardent 2.2 rear, 2.4 front at 25-30 psi. Handles sketchy rock slabs and tarmac yawn sessions equally well.
Don't go anywhere near Minions for that use!
I go Forekaster/Ardent Race fr and rr, or Ardent Race/Ikon fr And rr on my hardtail for winter then summer. All in 2.35 flavour.
Miles, miles faster than minions, SS included!
Sounds like you just need black & round and instock.
I'm guessing you're also running tubes, so whatever CRC etc have on sale with the amount of tread you fancy.
