Today I slashed a 1cm hole in the side of my Maxxis aggressor rear tyre, is this repairable or is it new tyre time?
If so, what’s a decent rear tyre for winter/spring riding? This is my first non-26 bike so there’s a lot more options that open up. Maxxis or none Maxxis is fine, function over form.
Thanks
I did the same with a gravel tyre last week. I patched the cut with a normal inner tube patch then glued a thicker 2cm x 2cm tyre patch over the top of that. It stayed up for a week and survived a long off road ride today, so if the tread is still good it’s worth trying to save it
You should be able to to a permanent repair with a motorbike mushroom plug, for what they cost they should be in everyone's repair kit
Excellent, I don’t generally run different tyres through the year so I was hoping I could save it. Thanks
Stitch the cut up with dental floss, innertube patch on the inside, possibly one on the outside too depending on how paranoid you are. Go ride...
I have done as Jon suggests before now and worked a treat but dont bother anymore as doing what Tracey suggests is so much easier and will defo last the lifetime of the tyre.
I now have a few mushroom plugs in the toolbox, just in case. Kwik fit were happy enough to hand a few over
Aye, do as Tracey says. Sorted.
Mushroom plugs ordered. Cheers everyone for the advice
