Been out of biking for a couple of years, my current rides a 26in Trance X1 from 2011, and I think a new bike is in order. Budgets about 2k, and I'd like to at least throw a leg over the thing before I jump in and buy, so no internet only jobbies. Another consideration is I'll probably opt for finance, so it has to be a new rather than second hand affair.
Looking at a stumpy comp 27.5 which I think will fit perfectly, can get the 2018 for 2k from leisure lakes with £500 off. Have read mixed reviews but ive had a couple of specializeds in the past and got on we with them. Any other ideas?
Whyte t130, yt Jeffsy would be worth a look
Definitely a T130. Great bikes with nice specs and the ride is sublime. Absolutely love mine, it’s ace!
In the tradition of recommend what you have, I bought a Cannondale Habit when I was in the same position as you.
I looked at the Whyte but for above my budget, the revelation forks were deemed inadequate and SRAM level brakes are poor spec for the intended use.
Also looked at YT but I wasn’t so keen on the mix and match drivetrain of the 2018 model.
I got the habit from Rutland. It was (and still is £1999). Time it right and you can get a spend and save discount of another £150. For that outlay, you also get around £20 of reward points and if you go through TopCashback, there’s about £50coming back to you.
All in, the bike can be had for under £1800 and I love mine, for the money it is outstanding. I’ve been riding it for 4 weeks or so so still getting used to it but no complaints whatsoever. Took it to Llandegla and it flew around (in my opinion).
Carbon frame, pikes, Sram x1 drivetrain, guide brakes and a fox transfer dropper.
The colour is a bit marmite, love it or hate it, I think it looks fantastic.
I don’t think you can get a better spec for the money but Cannondale seem unfashionable hence the discounts. Mine replaced a 2004 Jekyll that didn’t miss a beat so I was happy to get another.
Read the reviews of the 2017 model, note the comments about the lefty holding it back then remember yours will have a Pike!
Again another recommending what you have - Trek Fuel EX8 29.
I couldnt get on with the T130, although most people love them!
