I rather fancy a dropper for my HT but it being a 27.2mm seatpost I'm rather limited as I really don't want to pay Thomson money, that and it won't be a permanent fixture, more one for the big days out every once in a while.

I've come across the New TMARS one on eBay for a penny under £60, has anyone used one yet?

I've had in the past a couple of Joplins, a Reverb and a Giant Contact Switch and they've all been good enough for me

A couple of my riding buddies have the RSP Plummet, seems pretty good.

Yeah. Ive got one. Dont use it that much at the moment since I bought a hilo cheap from a mate. They are often described as agricultural and for a good reason but if you dont mind it feeling and sounding slightly rough then it does the job. Aside from the price then the other plus is its completely rebuildable. Which I did just at the weekend. Even had the locking pin mechanism to bits.

Put last years model on the wife's bike last year. Plan was to see if she liked the idea before buying a good one. Its still on there and still working after a fair bit of use. As above easy to service. Not as nice as my command post but a whole lot cheaper.

I had a 27.2 Tmars on my 456-evo, it was great.
Basically a Gravity Dropper clone, no reliability issues, ran it for a year and sold it on eBay for not much less than I paid for it.

Their after sales is crap as you cannot get spares when parts wear out.

^^bought a new bushing kit on eBay from a dude in Israel for about a fiver. Landed in a few days. Ten mins to fit. Piece of proverbial.

On the other hand...

Mine lasted under 2 months. Feel was always a little 'agricultural' but it did the job until a wet and muddy ride when it failed completely and unpredictably: wouldn't drop or when it did wouldn't come up. A week later went to sort it and found it was seized solid.

Save up a bit and get something a little better

Is it worth getting an RSP Plummet or a Sorata Pro instead then?

I suspect they are all similar quality and probably come from the same factory.

I've got the original one. Piece of pee pee to strip down, service and customise, I've drilled out the pin so it'll now fit a standard brake cable using the end you normally cut off. Bought a load of brake cables from wilkos so it'll last me a fair if I keep it well greased. Also got rid of the 90° angle where the cable comes out of the post by using a fee brake noodle.

Goes up, goes down, what more do you want.
