Hi, I'm in the market for a new bike. Here's the criteria:

- low maintenance (so SingleSpeed or Hub geared)
- bit of a do it all bike. 2 mile mixed commute, out with kids along river etc.
- first single speed so want a freewheel

So far I've narrowed it down to these:

Charge Plug 3 £405.99

Vitus Vee 29 £292.49 (very nice price!)
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=81000

On-One Pompino £499.99 (£525 with freehweel)

Would you recommend anything else? What's everyones thoughts on the above?

Thanks
Lee

What size are you after? I'm thinking of parting with my Pompetamine 8 (flat bar) for around the same price as a new Pompino SS.

I'm 5'11, so around a 56cm. Pompetamine 8 sounds good. You got some pics? What condition is it in? age etc?

Ah I'm only 5'7" so it will probably be on the small side for you.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to fit the Charge Plug 3 with some drops? like these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Charge-Bowl-Drop-Bars-Road-Style-for-Fixie-Singlespeed-Bike-NEW-/110990661934?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&var=&hash=item19d78f192e

Anything is possible. However, along with the cost of the new bars you'll need new brake levers, cables and bar tape.

I'd vote for the On-One!

Yeah unfortunately my wallet is fighting a losing battle at the moment. Think I'm going to go for the on-one. Now....blue or white... 😉

I bought a Croix de Fer in January and after using drops for the first time I don't want to go back to flats !

So why are you after a new'un? I gather you no longer own the CroixDF?

What about?

I'm pretty tempted myself at that price even though I don't need one.

@Duffer, yeah no long have the Croix De Fer, it was an overkill for what I needed to decided to free up some cash and downgrade to something simpler. I never changed gear at all on my commute so just want something nice and simple.

@Bish, I really like the look of that and it's extremely cheap. Are they decent? I've never heard of that brand before. Cant seem to find any reviews on it.

Got acccess to a new Genesis Day One Disc for £550 so thats another one in the running now :S Very intrigued by that Merlin though!
