I am getting a new gravel bike with a sram force 1x wide crankset that comes with a 40 tooth chainring, I want to use a 36 tooth chainring as I recover from a knee injury but the smallest force chainring is 38. Does anybody know if the latest sram MTB chainrings would fit? It looks to be the same direct mount interface in the pictures, so I guess it would be a matter of what the offset is.

can you not just swap the cassette for easier gearing?

Swapping the cassette for would mean fitting a mtb cassette which would also mean swapping the derailleur.

oh.  that for sure?  May be worth just trying it if you have a spare cassette.   if it ls a single ring at the front I've found the maximum on drainers can be exceeded
