My old reliable disco slippers are in need of being retired. I don't race but I do like the stiff sole that comes with them. I'm not talking carbon racing sole but typical shimano rachet and velcro type shoes. However, my riding style is more trail based and I'd like a more appropriate shoe (more to the point, the wife thinks I should have something less silly looking). Problem is, the shimano shoes that look like trainers are normally more flexible and hurt my feet on day rides. So, question is, who makes a stiff efficient feeling spud shoe with trainer type looks? Would be even better if it has a wider forefoot and narrower heel. Don't want much do i!

I have almost exactly the same requirements as you OD.

I get foot numbness that I can only out down to a flexy sole 😕

After much deliberation I have ordered into my LBS a pair of
Shimano M087 in a wide fitting.

Hope to go and try them later this week.

The model before M086(?) got a good write up if that helps at all?

Would be interested if others have better recommendations especially in a wider fitting variety.

Anyone tried the mavic or garne trail shoes?

Cheers for that lmttm. I was thinking of trying some of the wider stuff from lake or shimano but wonder if it will lead to a lot of heel lift.

Take a look at the Specialized range, they are quite wide up front. I found the Taho to be an excellent all day shoe.

Cheers, I'll take a look at those. Do the trail shoes have the varus tilt sole?
