I'm after some new shoes. principally for road use so nice and stiff will be nice. I also want to be able to walk around off the bike without doing the cyclists duck waddle.

I have been looking at Specialised Sport Road Shoes which fit the bill nicely, but as ever...they are last year's models and the only stocks that anyone has  are of the smaller sizes. So that avenue is closed.

What else is there in a sport/commute cross shoe? Firm but with some form of tread on the sole that preferably is higher than my SPD cleat so that i can walk around sensibly? I don't really want to go down the road of MTB type shoes.

Bontrager Espresso look like proper road shoes but have a sole around a 2 bolt SPD cleat.

Try Shimano RT4 or RT5, they're branded as touring shoes and might well work for what you want.

Shimano XC5, did 180 miles for the Dunwich Dynamo on them with no issues and great for all the pub stops!

Fizik Terra another option, look like road shoes but with SPD and tread

just go for a trainer style MTB shoe, you won't notice a big difference against a proper road shoe and they are more practical for everything other than road cycling.

The Shimano 7 series shoes are well regarded, been wondering about a pair to replace my 2006 pair. The dilemma for me is whether to get XC7s to still use my Time ATAC XS Carbon 2006 pedals, or get the road model shoes and some SPD-L pedals for the road bike (and use old stuff on Wazoo).

+1 for Shimano XC-5's, done thousands of road and off road miles in them. Look good, plenty stiff enough and unexpectedly light. Seem to be wearing in, not wearing out.

bont riot mtb? They're identical to the road ones except for having some fairly unobtrusive treads on the sole. Heat mouldable and well priced. I've used them for many road rides.

Giro Rumble (assuming 2 bolt cleat).
