My 5 10 impact vxi (with dotty soles) are about dead now so I'm looking at replacements. I didn't like the fit of the freerider much as the toe box felt a bit odd. The vxi are discontinued so I guess the impact pro is the replacement? There appear to be a few new shoes that have popped up over the last year so what's worth looking at for a wider foot?

Thanks,

Not the Adidas terrex if you have a wide foot.

Thanks, I think Vaude are narrow too.

So that leaves Specialized 2FO, Shimano AM and the new ones from Giro and Northwave.

Bontrager flatline shoes have been getting some good reviews.

I've treated myself to a pair of Shimano AM9's - I normally ride stiff XC shoes - and these things feel like slippers. Had one 4 hour Enduro session and they felt pretty solid; comfortable walking and easy to adjust. I thought i'd have to constantly tighten the drawstring thingie, but they stayed tight throughout the ride.

Try half a size bigger in the newer Five Tens, they seem to be using a smaller last now.

If you liked the VXi, then the Terrex will be a disappointment for feel & grip. They are like a better version of the 2FO, but nothing like the grip levels of the VXi sole.

I have a pair for trail riding, which they work for, as they are nice and light & breath well & grip isn't the absolute end requirement. Whenever I wear them for racing, they have annoyed me by slipping a pedal.

I have a pair of the new Impact Pro's which feel good, kind of a hybrid between the VXi and the old Impacts. The sole is noticeably thicker (that might be because my VXi's are very well abused) but the grip levels are right up there. They feel a little heavier than the VXi, but very well put together. They are basically my new go to shoe. Will see how the sole lasts on them, as that was my only real complaint with the VXi.

There really is still only one choice if you ride flats.

Got a pair of Bonty Flatline shoes in for a customer with a wide foot and they fitted him well and he has been delighted with the performance . They seemed well put together and classy looking , they would probably be faster drying than five tens as well .

Thanks for the feedback, after a bit of googling it’s probaby between Shimano GR9, 5 10 impact pro, Bontrager flatline and 2fo.

Nothing grips like a 5.10, if that's matters to you, don't look elsewhere.

I've got the Shimano GR7, and they're nice, and well made, but the sole just isn't anywhere as sticky.

The 5.10 ELC are some of my all time favourites. The sole isn't the stickiest Stealth rubber, but it's still very sticky. And the construction is much better than other 5.10s.
