I'm thinking of buying a shock from ze Germans as the pound is stretching well these days.

Am I going to have to factor in buying a tool to remove the bushes from my current shock and install into new shock. I don't have a press but I do have a hammer.

Will I die?

No, you'll proberbly knacker the new bushings though.

Buy the right tool. I got mine from BETD.

Shock will probably come with bushes fitted. My new Monarch plus did. Just needed to swap the mounting hardware.

Shock will have bushes, you just swap across the mounting hardware

I bought a tool of eBay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shock-Bushing-Tool-for-rear-Fox-Rock-Shox-Marzocchi-2x-Polymer-Bush-DP-DU-/281714307455?
It came with 2 polymer bushes and if worked a treat, dead easy to use
and its really nicely made do should last, cost me £10.50 including postage 🙂

+1 for that shock bushing tool sold via 'mowicu' on eBay, it's a very well made item and good value.

I can also recommend the 'heavy duty mount kit' from TFTuned:

http://www.tftuned.com/heavy-duty-mount-kit-127mm-m8/p2937

Even though your new shock probably has decent bushings fitted, and your existing hardware might be OK, for £15, you could just get a complete mount kit that is guaranteed to work well.
