I need a new set of road wheels to replace a broken Ritchey Pro DS wheelset - rear axle snapped, front wheel is now installed on my fixed wheel commuter.
As I know nothing about road wheels what should I be looking to replace these with?

Budget 😎

Whatever you can afford will probably be good enough. I like Fulcrum from a cost/quality perspective but I hear they are rubbish for wet weather use, I only use mine on the summer bike.

I also like Shimano Ultegra, the hubs are cup and cone (like Fulcrum) which puts a lot of people off, but both companies have developed adjustment systems which are so easy to use it seems daft NOT to buy cup and cone now. Ultegra hubs in particular just require two 5mm allen keys and your fingers to adjust.

Recently I've handbuilt my own DT 350 hubs onto Pacenti rims though. I think both wheelsets worked out at around £500 including nice but not CX-Ray Sapim spokes, alloy nipples, expensive Pacenti rims etc. Both have been bombproof and the DT Hubs are so smooth that I'm no longer so concerned about cup and cone vs. cartridge.

But I suspect most will recommend Hunt or similar, they seem to be really good value with an option for every budget.
