Finally managed to take a few pictures of my raw frame new Scandal.

I know that the photography/ logo alignment/ cleanliness, is not upto usual STW standards!

Must admit took it for the first real ride tonight with the forks at 120mm and i think that it rides great with the slightly slacker front end.

theflatboy,

I've been down to On One and seen the built up Scandal!
Definitely raw is the one to have over the other colours simply because the finish is rough IMO!

Its a term of endearment and display of affection from Tazzy to his Scandal frame.

And your not that vertically challenged, its just you have short arms with long pockets.

Fenred!

My choice would be the Scandal, but in raw! It does look nice built up and is lighter than the Inbred, but if your not bothered about the extra weight in the frame and fancy a different colour, then the paint quality on the Inbred's is very good! I like the apple sauce green! You could spend more on your wheels, something lighter than normal and go for the Inbred! Choices, choices, choices!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck!

tk46hal, yep at long last going for it, but to fair I've only been contemplating a 29er for about a year! 😉 Rode Khani's 29er couple of weeks ago and was left with hankering to build 😀 Ordered wheels and forks last night. Absolutely love the ride of my 26er inbred and dont want to lose that 'feel' but my head is telling me raw scandal...Arghhh!

Brant, you guys still doing next day delivery this close to Xmas?

We are endeavouring to do same day dispatch for orders before 2.
I think.
To be honest the business is running much better since I had nothing to do with that side of the business.

16" Raw turned up today (in Oz). Just in time to make an Xmas build up pressie to myself :D.

Does feel a fair bit heavier in the hand than the old Scandal - the scales say 1680g, I seem to remember my old one is 1600g, so I guess it's just in the feel :-). Pleased with the updates to the headtube and bent seat tube for more derailleur clearance. I only tend to ride in dust here in Oz ( 😀 ), so the lack of full length cable outers is no real issue, but I'm seriously disappointed with the brake hose multiple mounts (under top tube ones too close to the head tube and downtube ones just pointless and ugly). Wasn't too phased by the inclusion of rack mounts when I ordered, but they too are pretty ugly in the flesh (and mean I've got to get 4 more bolts to plug the holes). Seems like they're trying (badly) to make a "race" frame into a "do-it-all" frame. The original geometry was spot on (thanks Brant!)so I'm sure it'll be great to ride, but,for me, the minor detailing is letting it down - wasn't it Brant's impetus to start designing the frames originally because he was sick of "cheap" frames being poorly designed/finished, when good design takes no more effort? Welcome back Brant - now get in there and sort the boys out! 😀

Time to get into the shed! If I can be bothered working out how to post pics up I'll post before Xmas and expose my buttocks for a whipping by you all.... 😀

P.S. I take back my earlier comments about facing the BB, it looks like it's been done at the factory this time (but I'll still run the facer over it to be sure...)

Bampot!

At least you ordered the raw! Certainly the best choice and finish. Still a well priced frame, but totally agree with everything you say. It's a shame that this frame just has little faults, but you'll enjoy it anyway!
Good luck!

half way through my build...
just a tip that might help others.
re: the rack mounts and the extra strength lugs under the headtube and rear stays. fill the small gaps in with clear silicon.
should stop the mud getting in....

looking forward to a few more arts arriving before xmas so i can complete the build before post stops...

merry christmas

Interesting that you managed to get a 16" Raw when they were only due to be landed in the UK today. Or is someone at On One telling me porkies?

I wondered that too... mine's here so I don't care :D. Maybe they presold them all and there's another shipment coming?

Thanks TK, I'm sure I will enjoy it!

Having just picked it up from the LBS where it went to have the headset lovingly pressed in (instead of my usual brutal hammer/threaded rod and washer stack technique). Got them to check the facing on the BB. It looks like it is faced at the factory - very shiny machined faces. A check with the BB tool showed it's just like the old Scandals - way out of whack. Definitely worth getting faced folks! I withdraw my withdrawal from above 😀

Had the frame a month but only got out for a first ride on the new Scandal on Saturday, a very enjoyable loop of Glen Finglass.

Bike was way better than i expected very quick and the handling with the Niner fork was brilliant and nothing like as harsh as i expected. Very impressed with the Maxxis Beaver tyres as well.

Big thanks, as always, to Bigdugsbaws for putting it together for me.

Looks great with the Niner fork!

Anyone know what happened to the X-lite fork?

Been very impressed with mine, built more like a trail bike than a racer. Angleset with 120mm Reba, reverb etc. I love it I must admit, good bike for long days out, climbs well, better down than I thought it would be and comfortable on all day rides.

Got the raw frame in 18". Only criticism is the routing of the gear cables but I think they were changing that

Ok- tbh its not got be super excited when compared with the Lynskey but I have been running it with risers cus that's all I had ( well actually what tazzy had) so I need to gets some flat bars on it cus it feels a bit too big

I had a couple of hours on it yesterday and it's growing on me but I still feel it will get sold soon as I've got 2 bikes that are too similar ( but one is all shiny and made if titanium!)

Is that better?

Still got one of these in my vague list of "Things I'd like"- only question is, are they stiff, or are they not? I had an old scandium 26er Scandal and it wasn't at all the bike I wanted at the time but it did have a lovely compliant frame...

With a Thomson post it's defo stiffer than my Lynskey with an I beam post- or so my arris told me!

Cool, ta. Not at all bothered about seated stiffness/comfort, I think all the nerves in my bum have died, more about a bit of give when rattling over rocks etc stood up.

wierd.... I've found mine to ride a lot softer in the back than the Lynskey Ridgeline it replaced. Lynskey did look lovely, but too harsh for me (I was hoping it would ride like my Lynskey/OnOne 456). I've found the Scandals to handle very similarly to my 456 - not sure how that works 🙂

That is wierd cus I had a ti456 and always thought it to be quite hard at the rear - I put it down the coke can rear stay!

I went from a Ti456 to the 29er Scandals and found the ride from the Scandals to be softer at the rear, certainly not as hard as the ti456. You can argue it could be the larger volume tyres, but what ever, the Scandals suited me better. The original Scandium Scandals will deffo take some beating and for the price they were at the time, a classic frame. Let's hope the new stuff get close!

Just built this up. New Scandal 29er frame and the rest is bits transplanted from my Ti frame that's just been sold.

The new Scandal frame looks ace! The silver stem and seatpost look really good with the black bits in-between!
Chainslapper, Let's see it with some dirt on it! And let us hope that it doesn't just become expensive garden furniture, well, at least it's made if off the settee! 😉
So, how does the ex 19.5" frame rider find the now 18" frame to size?

looks ace Mr slapp, but you have a thingymiwotsit hanging of the back, you know those mud collection devices that make your legs go at different speeds, without any appreciable difference to actual speed!! 😆

Tazzy, Thursday night Chainslapper was watching tv with his new frame and then he took it to bed with him! 😉
