After posting about the new On One 29er frame in a previous thread.

http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/new-scandal-29er

The commen consensus was that people really liked the new frame, but that the gear cable routing under the downtube and not allowing full length outers meant that they seem a "crud magnet".

Interesting to see Brant Richards comments on On One website today.

"Cable routing, that’s a point. We’re back using top-routed, fully-enclosed cables, rather than the under the bottom bracket ones that appeared briefly. That’s all I’m saying on the matter"

http://www.on-one.co.uk/news/products/q/date/2011/12/31/2012

Seems like they are going to be changing the design of the frames, no doubt based upon the comments made by us and others about the daft design.

True, i think the chances of the frame being worth more as a limited edition are slim!

I rather liked BB routed cables actually, lot less trouble than open TT routed.

and lighter
and no stops to snag your shorts/dig in your shoulder

I think for me it was more that you could not run full length outers, especially as they run down the downtube, right in the way of all the muck. Seemed a step backwards from the old frame.

I have taken a drill to mine so that I can now run Gore cables, plus the brake lines still run under the top tube anyway, so they still dig in your shoulder or shorts anyway.

Wonder if they will ditch the pannier rack holders as well, will be a lot more pleasing to the eye if they did

the problem is grit between inner and outercable, bare inner cables covered in mud aren't really a problem. I've not run Full length outers and BB routed back to back for comparison but FLO don't seem to be as trouble free as I'd expect.

The original Scandal was designed correctly the first time and I'd be a little upset if I had just purchased one of the new ones! 😐

I wonder what version of the cable routing will appear on the frame I bought in November?

hopefully it will be full length under the top tube, swapped from bodged on full length to the proper routing on mine tonight and it doesn't work as the tyre (2.2 kenda nevegal)is catching on the cable due to the ****y cable routing....
the plastic bb guide is about 10mm narrower than the one on my fargo, reckon it could be a road bike one they sent, time for an email to on-one

I didn't understand why the C456 came with interrupted outers.

Oh and don't get me started on the cable routing for the rear brake up near the head tube.

yep, can't help biut think that the cable routing options on the latest ones totally balls up what is a decent frame...

Similar issues with new inbred swap out 29er frame, bb gear cable routing and rear brake hose running down tube and chain stay is a right pita when mounting bike on roof bar/carrier system and trying to prevent the hose getting squeezed in carrier clamp. Bit of a design fail in an otherwise great package.

Just built mine up.

So far, I've run the rear brake hose down the top tube/seat stay, The rear shifter cable is running up the other seat stay (using some Ragley cable clips onto the rack mounts) then zip-tied to the brake hose and the front mech cable is "interrupted" using the cable stop on the downtube.

It all looks fine at the moment and I'll give it a trial like this before making any changes. I've also bought but not yet fitted) some Middleburn Cable Oilers.

No problem with the front mech - the 16" frame doesn't have seat tube bottle cage mounts.

I'm surprised that with my wee legs I've had to fit a 400mm seatpost.

The gear cable routing doesn't really affect me too much here in dry old Oz, but I have got used to having full length outers on my other bikes (all On-Ones), so would have been just as happy to keep them on the new one... However the multitude of brake hose mounts really gives me the irrits - especially when they are uneccesary.

Looking at the hose mounts they only looked tacked on... Just wondering if a gently levered screwdriver might pop them off :?. First to try gets a prize :D.
