You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Afternoon all,
The On One website doesn't seem to actually give a lot of info on the new frame to be released on 30th apart from a photo (which looks lovely) and that it shares same geometry as the old one (which i currently ride) and when I called the guy that answered didn't seem to know either.
The seat tube has obviously been curved for better tyre clearance and i know that the headtube is now tapered, but:
- Anyone know what size seatpost it is to take?
- Being new to tapered forks, is the headset completely internal, or can i run, top cap of my current 1 1/8 external Hope headset and just buy lower cap and crown race from Hope?
- Is anyone planning on running it with 120mm fork, especially as On One are flogging 120mm travel Reba's with the tapered steerer for a bargain £299? Do you think that this will raise BB height and front end too much?
I look forward to tapping into the infinite wisdom that is the STW forum.....
Think you can lower the Reba's to 100mm with a spacer kit.
I have pre-ordered one as a winter bike.
I have one of the OO Rebas on my other bike and believe the travel can be adjusted some how (with a spacer possibly maybe i think). Planning on running Scandal rigid.
It is a nice fork though and a bargain at £299, only downside was that mine came with bogging red graphics which were removed.
Can not really help on any of the other info, i beleive it is an external headset but am not 100% and i am waiting to find out about the seatpost myself in case i need to buy a new one.
Paul the rebas can be lowered to 100/80. Those Rebas do look a bargain. Think the key on-one people are on their way out to Taiwan at the moment.
("Scud" - no idea if it will actually launch, or where it will land, but usually does with devastatingly random results - a truly apt user name!! 😀 )
post is 31.6mm
headset is 44mm upper, 49.6mm lower.
i am in taichung and am going to bed now
I emailed them the same questions on frame specs earlier, I will post up if they reply. I dunno about your headset but the Rebas can be spaced down to 100mm for the Scandal.
They would definitely be getting more pre-orders if they had specs and pictures of the colour options and graphics on the website.
I bought a set of the Rebas from on-one and they came with the spacers to lower the travel in the box
Thanks all,
Brant - sweet dreams, I do admit that it is a lovely looking bike, but the On One staff, although lovely are selling a product that they don't seem to have much info on, the guy at On One told me that it was a 27.2mm seatpost and had no idea whether running it at 120mm would affect the warranty.
The forks do come with the spacers, but not being a racer, I would like to run the fork at 120mm if it doesn't mess up the handling to much?
By the way Hi Andy (the nickname Scud actually comes from when I used to be a chef and we had a newspaper cutting from the Gulf War, saying "Scuds make a real mess" and that's what i was known for in the kitchen)
I have an email back saying to check the site in 1-2 weeks.
If you pre-order now, have they said when actually delivery will be?
No, the email just said the shipment was imminent so I presume there won't be photos until the frames come out of the container.

it is not one of my designs but info should have been conveyed to staff better. well... conveyed to staff!
120mm doesn't affect warranty as warranty is for manufacturing defects. which aren't affected by fork length if you see what mean
post is 31.6 not 27.2
i can only type with one hand as my shoulder is in a sling
i have asked for page to be updated
as for "more" preorders... yes, i am sure we could, but they are selling incredibly fast in all but the green, so expect to see them sold out very soon.
before they land
really off to bed now
have just rubbed sore shoulder with ointment. not sure if it is tiger balm, vick or something else. will see in morning.
night night
If you pre-order now, have they said when actually delivery will be?
1-2nd dec to you we hope
Thanks for replies, Brant you've answered my queries. Just wanted a few things straightened before i spent my hard-earned.
I can sympathise, spent 3 months in a sling typing one handed in a job where i do nothing but type,
I'll bug you no further, sleep well.
scud ygm btw...
I think all the questions have been answered! I'm off to Rotherham for a raw finish frame! 😀
Shame I've got to buy a bigger seatpost! 😕
Can't sleep. Jet lag ugh.
Well seeing as your not sleeping perhaps you could confirm for me that it will also use the On-one smoothie mixer headset, and that a 31.6 seatpost on an alloy frame means a 34.9 seatclamp. Thanks, and have a hot milky drink 😉
120mm feels like a lot more on my 29er Inbred. Will be lowered when they go off for a service soon.

yes to all
The seatpost is 31.6mm??? Bastards! Just preordered my frame and a new 31.8 seatpost clamp... Hopefully I've got an old shim and seat clamp in a drawer somewhere...
Amazing how nobody at On-One knows anything about the frames (thanks for the headset sizing info off Shedfire, Brant! - Sleep well :D). Looking at Brant's "production sample" it looks like they've reverted to exposed cables/cable stops, but the site still brags "continuous cable routing to keep things running when it's gritty" Even the graphics/colours are apparently a complete mystery. How did they order the frames? "Just stick some stickers on when you're done, be good if they said On-One or something similar, any design or colour will do....".
Love the product (this'll make three in the shed...), but the organisation/management seems to be getting worse (let's not talk about the promises of the Carbon Race/Lurcher/Ti29er..).
I wish I had snapped up one of those carbon 456 and XT kits they did briefly for an insane 499...
I quite like the suspense created ny the lack of info and pics. I think its called guerilla marketing! I've got a black anodized on order and can't wait for Friday when I can start getting the rest of the kit. Patience is a virtue...
One more question. Post or IS brake mounts?
Just ordered the raw finish frame after Brant thankfully was good to answer my questions.
I must admit that it is a bit different ordering a frame not knowing what graphics or other bits actually look like, but I've owned a few different On One frames and they tend to be great value for what they are. Can't wait to see what the finished product will look like. It is a shame that they seem happy to take your money via the pre- order system yet the person that answered the "technical helpline" didn't know the answers to anything I asked him
Scud,
Let us know your thoughts on the raw frame/finish etc before I jump in as well! 😉
I should hopefully get it for the weekend, so will post up some pics. Feels a bit
Like Xmas not being sure what it is going to be in the parcel.
This is where we all find out that the graphics are some hideous graffiti pattern or have flowers all over 'em!
Scud, I had the same issue when I noticed all the sizing info had changed on the web site and no one could offer an explanation. They said the only one that knew was Brant.
I hadn't noticed the sizing had changed? I was an 18" on old Scandal frame so guess it couldn't have changed to much. Are the smoothie headsets any good? Or am I best going for my usual Hope one?
SLAPPER,
GET TO WORK!
Where are you lot getting geo info from? the only page i can find with info on the new frame is this one... and theres not much info here.
geometry unchanged inspire of curvy seat tube
gear cables now open under bb

😀
SCUD: Now you've got me scared...Wouldn't put it past On-One though..
But if you post up pics it'll ruin my surprise - mine's going to be at least a week getting to Oz 😥
I'm mixing/matching two halves of a nukeproof headset (already have the half that fits the top, just needed a larger lower). Got lucky last night and found a 31.8 to 27.2 seatpost shim down the back of the shed. The ti seatpost lives to fight another day!
Has anyone received notifacation of their's being dispatched yet?
Having spoken to On One they said that they should be dispatched on monday 5th when I spoke to the yesterday, this may have changed though.
From the On One site...
Scandal 29ers with Swapouts - Like Brant's sample one (SuperRaw) as well as regular Black Ano and Green Painted versions. All sizes. HERE (must remember to write some words for that today.
Here as in "on UK shores in some customs holding area" or here as in "in our hands and ready to send out to customers" I wonder?
On One they said that they should be dispatched on monday 5th
Shame, i was looking forward to a weekend of bike building in the garage.
I can see the sizes on the on-one web site, but is there anywhere or anyone with info on geometry?
What are brake mounts? what is BB? sorry always more questions....
Cheers
Wheels have arrived. A frame would be nice.
No photos yet, but we do have some description.
Someone at On One was doing overtime on Sunday?
ooh. I wrote that on my phone on the train yesterday afternoon.
matt must have put it up.
Just proof read it for you...
Superlight 3.5lb race frame.
Frame weight is slightly more than previous models, but still certainly well under 4lb, which is best in class at this pricepoint.
Hmm
Copy added to, rather than replaced.
But if that's the worst a one armed man managed on a train, I'm quite pleased.
So has anyone actually seen any in the flesh yet? Are they on shore?
Anyone any idea as to whether they will be dispatched today as I was told on the phone last thursday?
I've just spoken to On One, the frames will not be with them til wednesday or thursday and then not dispatched til this time next week!
Feel a bit of a t*at now for listening to them last week and stripping down my old frame on friday! No riding for me this week!
So far I've been told that the frame had 27.2 seatpost, so purchased one of them to be told it is now wrong size, been told that it would be delivered to me 1st or 2nd December and that the frame was 3.5ib in weight all of which were wrong.
Good job they are cheap!
Full builds going up tomorrow afternoon too, apparently.
🙂
Will you please stop talking about these, some of us can't afford one. 😥 😡
A company selling frames and they dont know the full spec.... plus they have a man who is writing the spec up on a train.... OH MY DAYZ.
Kingtut.
I think that's why i'm getting carried away a bit, sad really but in ten years of riding this will actually be my first new frame! I've always made bikes up from eBay and the classifieds.
I currently have one of the old Scandium scandal frames which I bought on the STW classfieds and an old 2008 Reba fork, it is only because the fork has completely given up this winter that i was looking to buy a new fork, saw the tapered steerer with 20mm axle on the On One website, then when I saw that they were releasing a new frame that was it, the credit card was melted.
A company selling frames and they dont know the full spec.... plus they have a man who is writing the spec up on a train.... OH MY DAYZ.
This is probably why they can sell them for that price 🙂
Scud - very cheeky but you aren't selling a 26er Scandal in medium then are you? If so please mail me!!
Hi TimP.
My current frame is a 29er Scandal frame, sorry mate. If you fancy the switch to the big wheels, let me know. (18" black frame).
Full builds going up tomorrow afternoon too, apparently.
lol
A classic case of over promising and under delivering, along with very poor communication of new details brought about by lack of handover and procedures.
We will endeavour to get frames out to customers ASAP after they arrive.
With container landing Thursday 8am we are attempting to get orders picked and packed and out to customers by Thursday evening where possible.
We're sorry and really, it will get better.
Don't be sorry, Brant. I'm enjoying the anticipation. Every day delayed means better deals on the parts from everywhere else as the discount code offers flood my inbox!
Brant, i'm only sore cause i took the old bike to bits in an excited frenzy and I start to get a bit tetchy if i don't ride at least 2 or 3 times a week!
If it looks as good as it does in the "teaser" picture all will be forgiven.........
its a scandal......
awaiting new bike for xmas......
Well I've given up, have a grand to spend via the Cyclescheme, have been waiting on the off chance that there will be Scandal build, even a singlespeed version, that would come in at a grand, but given the price of the Inbred 29er has gone up to 1099 and that I have to get this all sorted by the 16th means the monger will be getting the order. I wouldn't have minded a 3rd On One in my garage 🙁
Hmm... email I got from On-One last Fiday (looking at you, Jamie) assured me the frames had arrived on the 1st, as advertised... Now Brant is telling us (from the other side of the world) that they're due in on Thursday. Somebody is fibbing, c'est la vie, but why lie guys?

POSTED 4 HOURS AGO # REPORT-POST
We had two containers coming in from our agents last week and three this coming week. I think someone got shipping documents confused. Not helped by me and Purchasing Manager being in Taiwan last week and not as "all over it" as we should have been.
I'm quite sure Jamie didn't "lie" but could well have had duff info and over-promised.
Apologies. It has been an enlightening process which has already created new processes.
I want to be excitedly telling people that things are hear EARLY not apologising for lateness.
Apology (sincerely) accepted :-).
I'm sure Jamie didn't "lie", but gave a solid reassurance: "The frames arrived yesterday and are being booked in as we speak", which made me hopeful...
As posted above; It's a Scandal... my order is in, and I'm quite prepared/expecting to wait a bit. Maybe the lack of info/certainty of delivery does add a certain frisson to the excitement of a new frame...
As mentioned earlier, I 've passed out several times holding my breath waiting for the Race/Lurcher/ti29er to appear (in a 16") when promised (and I'm a diver so I'm pretty good at holding my breath :D). This will be my third On-One in the shed, as well as encouraging mates to buy them, but the goodwill I have for the brand just keeps getting tested.
Brilliant design/geometry, great price etc.. If the new processes can just nail the delivery/stock issues, you'll be on a winner (again).
Look forward to hearing about products being here early 😀
remind me - the carbon 29er (not racey one) Binned or just delayed ?
serous question, BTW - anyone know ?
Delayed, i think Brant said March.
Thinking about ordering one of the new frames, but is it going to be any better or worse than the last Scandal and also having to buy a new seatpost, seatpost clamp, headset and probably a new front mech as the old one pulled from the top and the new one pulls from the bottom (dirty cables etc). I might just stick with my old faithful, What do you think?
tk46hal.
I've got an older Scandal now and have ordered one of the new frames, i'll let you know and post up a pic when it's built.
tk46hal,
First dibs on your old frame if you end up selling.(the green one!) 😉
Pics of the new scandals on the US site

Does that include tax? If so they're just the £50 cheaper in the States...
Would imagine there would be VAT and import tax on top so prob work out about the same price maybe a little more than UK.
I was just looking for pics as i had pre-ordered a UK one a couple of weeks ago.
How much for a scruffy green 19.5 one with no cable guides d'ya reckon? (before it goes on the classifieds)
I'm not talking about importing one, more pointing out that they're prepared to sell them cheaper in the States.
Looking at the yank pics (and now looking back at brant's build up), what the hell is going on with the rear brake hose mounts? Under the top tube (good), and then the mounts are on the top of the chainstay! How the hell are you supposed to route a hose between them? Notice Brant isn't using them.
Brant/On-One, tell me this isn't the final production frame. Frame design 101: FAIL! This could be a deal breaker. 😥
US pricing doesn't include sales tax as we operate out of Portland. We have to pay VAT on uk sales, so that's your difference there.
Downtube/chainstay Mounts for brake routing is for SS use. Top tube/seatstay for geared use.
There's going to be some heavy duty dremel use......and not just to erase stevo's name off everything 😉
The US site product description also says it has continuous cable routing, it must be an old description.
It is. That's the text that was on the UK On One site until the weekend.
Still - at last I can see what the decals are like now 🙂
Okay, a closer look at the pics suggests that there's just a multitude of options for hose routing (?). Toptube/chainstay, downtube (single mount?)/seat stay, or variations on the theme. Maybe on a 456, with the top tube mounts for a dropper post (which still leaves spares on the seatstay...), but this is supposedly a "race" frame.
I agree Rorschach.... where's me Dremel....
