Forgive me if it's been done, couldn't see anything in the search.

The latest consultation by DCC for the work on Rushup Edge is now going on here-

https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/council/have-your-say/consultation-search/all-consultations/consultation-details/planned-repair-of-chapel-en-le-frith-byway-open-to-all-traffic-no144-known-as-chapel-gate.aspx

The plans are here-

For those not familiar with this sort of thing, Type 1 Sub-Base is natural stone gravel (likely to be sandstone here, to match the surrounding stone).

This does seem like a massive improvement over the original plan of road planings, but is it strictly necessary? It looks like much of this work will involve the removal of the gravel that's already been chucked down, so I can't help but feel that it'd be most appropriate and cost effective to remove that, then do a bit of work on the road (between CH0 and CH150 on map 1) to stop the track draining onto the main road, and the proposed works between CH750 and CH1000 where the bogs are and leave it at that.

Obviously, form your own opinions and get your responses in.

There is an existing thread:  https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/chapel-gate-consultation-on-proposed-repairs/

But yes, I can't see why they don't just remove the rubble they've dumped all over the track, sort out the boggy patch at the top and leave well alone. I suspect the answer is making it more accessible for wheelchair access, but given the state of other trail options from the top, that seems a little misguided. It'd make more sense to smooth out the few iffy sections of the broken road. All in all, the whole thing seems like a waste of time and money.

I doubt you can get a wheelchair over 300mm of Type 1 easily anyway.

Just for clarity, MOT type 1 is Angular, Well Graded (Variable size <37mm from memory) that is manufactured/produced to very specific standards (grading, angularity, frost heave, load bearing) and designed for use in road construction beneath the tarmac.

It is uncomfortable to walk on due to angularity and size, a potential tyre-shredding risk due to the sharp edges, and both sharp and loose for horse footings.

So basically it's an expensive engineered gravel being used in an unsuitable location/design.  All IMHO, of course.
