Just put a new front rotor on and can't adjust caliber to remove contact when brake not on. It's an Avid rotor with SLX caliper, is there a way of widening the space between the pads?

Just bend the rotor straight.

Retract the pistons? No idea about avids but on all my shimanos it's just a case of forcing them apart - gently with something non damaging.

Peter, rotor should be straight it's brand new and the rubbing is constant all the way round so I think it's the set up of the pads or was wondering if rotor could've too thick? Compatibility between avid and shimano?

Andy, can you do this without worrying about bleeding etc?

Are the pads rubbing on both sides of the rotor or just one side?

Should be no compatibility issues and a new rotor should of course be nice and straight.

Try loosening the caliper bolts (the ones that attach the brake to the frame) so you can jiggle the caliper about a bit. Hold the brake on an tighten them back up. This should centre the disc between the pads.

You might also have accidentally advanced the brake pistons (as suggested above) so you could remove the pads and press the pistons back in with a plastic tyre lever. Do NOT use a screwdriver - it'll scratch the pistons.

Yes, use a plastic tyre lever or similar to force pads apart, fit wheel, pump lever to advance pistons.

Also new rotor with old pads will need to bed in again, some slight rubbing may occur until this is done.
