I’m going to buy a new road bike soonish as my other was pinched! My budget is 2k. I don’t know what I’m looking for in road bikes really, I think ultegra minimum spec, probably carbon frame? I’ve no idea what wheels are good and I know naf all about road bike geometry. Any suggestions?
At 2k you'll probably still find most bikes still have fairly rubbish wheels. You'd do better going for a slightly cheaper model with 105 and upgrading the wheels.
I've mentioned it on other recent threads, but of you can stretch to 2.5k the Dura Ace Synapse that Wheelbase have on offer is an absolute steal. Perfect bike for UK riding.
Can you recall what sort of saddle to bar drop your nicked road bike had?
Any existing flexibility or bad back issues?
If I knew my lower back could take it, from what I'm aware of, the Giant Propel Advanced 2 Disc would be a contender for me...

Much more aggressive geo than my 58cm Cube Attain that has 388/610mm reach/stack (latter stranglely seems to include conical spacer above headtube, so really ~590mm), I'm 5'10 with short ~32" cycling inseam.
I couldn’t say what the saddle to bar drop would have been. It was a giant xct I think, size ML but I always thought it was a bit too short, I’m a smidge over 6ft. The £2k budget is fairly flexible, I just plucked it out the air.
