Went out today for the first ride on my new build (Kaffenback).

Its got the wrong forks on it while I wait to fit the correct ones. The one fitted are for 26" wheels but the 700c 28mm tyres fit fine.

As soon as I got onto the road I noticed the front end was really twitchy. More so than I expected.

The axle to crown height cant be much shorter than the 700c forks as the wheel fits fine. Would that tiny amount actually make that much of a difference? Or is it a case of weight distribution as I felt too far forward and plan to move the seat back.

Cheers

Fitted a proper 700c fork today. Wadaya know.... completely different.

Now I just have to figure out if I need to save for drops and levers, shifter etc. or stick with the riser thats on there. Hmmmmm...

Off set is different too I expect. Trail is generally considered the most important aspect to how a bike rides, having a different offset will effect this.

Well both the fork that was on there and the one I'm using now are a completely different shape so its unfair to compare them. I think the correct length has the biggest bearing in the this situation. But like you said, that has probably increased the trail by pushing the front end up.
