Hello Everyone.
I just a new Bike and I noticed something strange. When I compress the rear shock it makes a Sound like air coming out.
I had other full Suspension bikes before and never had this Kind of noise
Could that be "normal" and with use go away? Or should I already take the bike to the Store for warranty?
There is a Video I made on the link below.
Thanks!!

Take it out a run, if it doesn't lose pressure, it's nothing to worry about.
Mine all sound squishy...
Thanks guys. Just rode and seems fine. Looks a bit shiny (kinda wet from oil - Nothing dripping or leaking). But I you thats ist not dry..not sure if some correlation.. though.
It's a Trek-specific DRCV/Re:Active shock, they all make a bit of noise as the air moves from one set of chambers to the next. As for the 'wet' stanchion, that's the lube doing it's job if it's just a small film of it. As the seals bed in it'll be less obvious, when it disappears it's overdue an aircan service.
thanks for Input! glad to know ist common from this reaktiv from Trek. I though was something strange since never seem it before 🙂 thanks! now I will just enjoy the machine 🙂
Whilst the trek reactive shocks to make a little noise that noise in the video isn't right or acceptable.it sound more like the damper sucking in air.go for a ride and check the rebound isn't getting too fast .
When I bought my Stumpy the shock made a noise on the first couple of rides. All gone now
As long as it doesn’t make a bubbly gurgly squelching sound. If it does that the seals are gone and air is mixing with oil. Mine did that the other week straight out the box and had to be sent away for repair to silverfish.
Hard to tell from your video. Let a little air out so you can cycle it through it’s full stroke.
Does it sound like this? If so it’s the oil and are are mixing and it needs a repair.
Hi guys, thanks for the replies.
I went for a couple of rides and it feels ok..however the noise is still there.
@zerolight, the noise is not similar to the one you posted, yours you Can definettly hear this noise of liquid mix bubbly Sound. Mine is a more air related Sound, like if air was coming in and out when Rebounding/compressing.
I will give it a try to run a lower pressure to use full stroke on a ride and then see what happens.
For me is a Little unconfortable the Situation, becuase unless it is totally common, where all These shock s makes this noise, then it shouldnt be doing this Kind of noise.
If it continues after some more rides I might take it to the shop so they Can have a look at it.
Guys, one update.
I noticed that the oil Coating seems a lttle excessive, enough to mix with dust and create such a dirty paste.
Another Point is that the Rebound knob is going to the fastest set up by itself, I set on two clicks from Fast to Slow and after riding it is on the highest fast Setting possible.
Is that what you mentioned @ Big-Bud?
Seems like the shock is not working properly.
If it's leaking more oil then it's time to get it looked at.
Exactly the same bike as mine and it's normal for that shock. I did a bit of reading before buying and slight oil weep at the beginning is normal for these shocks.
It's the same with the rebound. I've messed about with mine being fully open, to 2 clicks (even some of the reviews mentioned this). A lot of people seem to swap the shocks out for something more conventional, but mine has been decent once set up.
Thanks @johnw1984..so I will wait and see how this oil weep develops.
But About the Rebound thats quite annoying Righ? It happens the same to you? I set it 2 clicks aways from fully open and after riding it is somehow in the fully open Adjustment. Meaning I have no Rebound Setup because eventually it will land at the fully open mode.
Did it stop Happening to you? Or basically you just ride on fully open Setting?
thanks again
AH sorry, I misunderstood your rebound problem. I can basically run mine fully open and it's spot on for my weight, so it's kind of redundant but it stays put. I add 1-2 clicks if I'm carrying more weight and have to put more air in the shock.
The rebound should be changing when just riding as that seems quite strange.
I had a little oil weep, but was told and read that it's normal on this shock. Had the bike a few months now and it doesn't seem to be leaking though.
thanks for the Feedback!
yes, it is really strange… the Rebound knob by itself sets on the full open mode… I will probably take it to the shop for repair...
