Current rack is cracking at a weld...

It's 700c bike with mudguards over 38mm tyres.
But I'm a fan of lighter and more minimal racks - and certainly one that is closer to the tyre/guard at the top. The current one is so wiiiiiiide.

Needs to be black.

Tortec Hybrid?
I'm sure I've seen one on here that also supports a mudguard?

Be a shame to spray it black though!

I don't! That's worth half of what the bike is - Merlin gravel bike that was £700 new over 2 years ago...

That was a bit tongue in cheek! I've used an ali Tortec rack and it did show signs of wear where the clips attach after a year or so.

Cube make some interesting ones but they might be quite frame specific.

Or just make your own 🙂

If minimal and light is your thing, then Tortec Velocity is worth a look

I've had tortec ultralight on commuter bike for years with no problems. Nice solid rack with 4 point fixing for commuting. Feels solid, not dissimilar to the Blackburn MTN1 on my other bike.

The narrower velocity hybrid looks similar but narrower. I've always found Tortec racks to be good value. Never had anything posher like a tubus to compare to though.

Edit: just looked them up and the velocity racks are over 100g heavier than the ultralight but narrower and both 25 kg nominal load capacity.
What is the weight weenie vs streamlined payoff for load carrying?

All you get from Tubus is longevity under heavy loading. If you've never broken a rack then you've saved yourself a ton of money

I've always liked Blackburn racks. Most of them are child seat compatible and lifetime warranties which gives you an idea of the quality of them but I think you can get lighter racks but those tend to crack on the welds.

Considering the outgoing rack is a steel Trek I was given....and it is clearly 20 years old!

The Tortec Hybrid looks like the answer I think.

Interesting video on luggage and time penalties etc. Having an inline rear rack can actually increases your aerodynamics as it cleans your air etc

I have a cube rack, this one https://www.cube.eu/en/equipment/luggage-racks/rear/product/acid-carrier-gravel-black/
It is excellent, pretty light, totally solid, supports a mudguard.
But, i think it only really fits specific cube frames.

I'm sure on my 9km commute that will save far less than being able to hook/unhook/fling things in my pannier of lunch and clothes for the day. 😉

Would Ortlieb quick rack be any good? The 'light' version saves a bit of weight if you only carry panniers, but even the standard version isn't massively heavy. Both are easy to fit and remove when not needed.

Something Topeak MTX compatible is a nice to have. Mine sits on the trike with the MTX bag that just slides off. I also have the beam rack for other bikes.

Or Tubus to budget, have one of those with QL3 knobs for rapid removal of my briefcase.

Tubus Fly Evo meets your spec perfectly. It's basically an Airy made from steel and is black, with a light mount. £80 from Spa Cycles.

EDIT. Mine will take 40mm tyres and 65mm guards.

I've cracked 2 blackburn mtn 1 racks at the welds.

Love my one of these and very solid with discs due tonthe narrowness. Https://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/bags-racks/bike-racks/axiom-streamliner-disc-dlx-rear-bike-rack__36242
