Now that is a proper home build, wheels aswell!
Yup, I was picky about the wheels (reflective rims, dyno front hub) so built them myself. Got them finished on sunday actually, so I have now have a "rolling chassis"...
That frame's got some weird angles, did it get squashed in transit???
Wide angle lens innit.
Looks like it should be a really good build. I'm intrigued by the reflective rims though, could you tell me more?

+1
Take it you'll be using a tensioner to go with the Alfine (that is an Alfine in the box?)? What are those shifters, and why two - intruiged 😉
I think they are Schwalbe tyres, possibly Marathons.
I think it might be an alfine front dyno hub ... and the rest is normal chain / mech setup for gears, hence the 2 shifters.
I think that will be the Alfine dynamo front hub rather than the Alfine geared rear hub. Shifters look like standard SRAM gripshift.
Tyres definitely have reflectors but he mentions reflective rims which is definitely intriguing.
Dyno hub - gotcha - makes sense now.
Defo says reflective RIMS - reflective sidewalls on the Marathons are good.... until you don't wash them for months, or the reflective strip starts peeling off....
Hi all,
The alfine box is the generator hub. Drivetrain will be a regular 2x9, gripshift with shimano derailleurs. Only 9speed shifter I could find is a long one that I will cut down to normal gripshift length.
Yes, I did say reflective rims - They are Velocity Dyads with the "Halo" coating. Bit disappointed so far though, they don't seem very reflective, especially compared to the strips on the tyres which really shine. Tyres are Rubena's marathon rip-offs, really cheap here from MEC.

Nice one, cheers for the info. Shame the rims aren't proving to be as good as you hoped.
Pics?
That's the biggest head tube I've seen this side of the beanstalk.
pics would be good, you going to fit guards on it?
Is the pic not showing up for some of you? It was embedded in the post and it shows for me.

And yes, the headtube is absolutely massive!
Looks nice, although i prefer drop bars for anything more than 30 minutes on the road. I take it your in Canada, i always like to pop into MEC when i'm there, i have one of their merino base layers that's on it's fifth winter now, and full of holes! Still the best base layer i have though.
I like ... more pics! 😀
Need Alfine ...
You had me sold until the Brooks. Sort of goes but you need to swap the saddle pack for something a bit more in keeping 🙂
Now that is lovely. Really nice. I like the saddle but it as above, that pack has to go. I'm sure it was Charliethebikemonger who had some leather ones that matched that saddle.
Unfortunately the matching Brooks saddle bags are $90..and that crappy MEC one was $10. Maybe I'd better get an early letter in to Santa...
