New Bike - price now reduced - not had bike yet

Is that difference worth £180 to you?

I'd ask the question, assuming you ordered from the same place showing the reduction.

I'd cancel the order if they weren't willing to pass on the reduction.

I had something similar with a local bike shop. They gave me store credit for the difference which I was happy with. You can only ask and see what their response is.

I can order one from Start Fitness and get it next week, I am not looking to jump ship, just Ive been waiting for months when I was originally told July delivery

I think if it meant I was paying an extra £180 I'd go to Start so I could at least have a go in what's left of the Summer. Unless of course you want to keep on side with a local bike shop for warranty purposes.

Why didn't you ask them rather than us?

I'd ask if they can price-match.

If they can't, if it's your LBS and you want to support/stick with for future warranty, suck up the price difference. If that's not an issue, cancel the order and order through Start Fitness.

Whats the bike?  Are Orbea showing it as 'on sale'? it's an odd time for a price to drop otherwise.

My mate ordered a Canyon Grizl and they announced a price drop while he was waiting for it. He contacted them and they credited him the difference.

Given that it's an ebike, a local shop is pretty much a must have, so I'd be going to whichever is closest to me and pushing for a decent deal.  It will break, they all do eventually, and a good LBS is a godsend.  I have 2 ebikes..

I would be questioning why it hasn’t been delivered for so long. It’s now nudging September which seems a very long wait. I wouldn’t be as patient as you unless it was very specific or I expected to wait this long at the time of ordering

Some brands are doing carryover bikes rather than releasing new colors for 2025. Is it a drop in 2025 rrp?

Scott had their 2023 genius 910 st, for 2024 it was the same spec and colour except for the newer sram udh AXS and it was significantly cheaper rrp.

I'd be more concerned that by the time your bike arrives it might be on year end clearance,although I suspect ebikes will see less reductions than real bikes.

You were clearly OK with the price when ordering.

It’s not my LBS , a shop a good 1hr away.

I didn’t order from my LBS because the earliest they could get it was Dec. This company (and Orbea) said I could get it July.

I had this with Intense a few years back and they refunded me the difference. I think it's fair to ask since you've been waiting for delivery.

As others have said, I don't think it would be unfair to request the price difference as store credit at least, especially since you've been waiting for so long.

Why are you still waiting for the first shop when another place can provide it next week? Just cancel your original order and buy from the other place.

As has been implied elsewhere, the real question is why you’re waiting 4 months plus for the bike when you can have it in a week.

I’d say you’ve shown more than enough loyalty to your LBS - during the time they’ve had you waiting you've lost most of summer, it’s becoming ‘last year’s model’ and as a result can be had for £180 less.

I see no reason to keep on waiting and pay more for the privelege, and would expect the LBS to understand if they value your custom as much as you do their service.

My main point still stands though - I’d be more aggrieved about having to keep waiting for ‘last years’ model than the £180, which isn’t as much as that in salary sacrifice terms.

Your problem is going to be salary sacrifice I’d imagine as you’ll already be paying for it and the shop will have the money from your employer so I doubt you could back out now?

Is the spec of the bike different? Is the "new" model lessor spec than the "old" model (eg Orbea couldn't get hold of certain parts so put some cheaper components on the new model and passed the "savings" onto customers?)

Just to be clear its a 2025 model Rise. Orbea have reduce the RRP on their website.

Anyhow contacted the bike shop and they will do the bike  at the new RRP. I guess in reality that will be money off towards any upgrades etc.

Apparently the bike is so delayed by Orbea not having all the bits to build the frame (god knows why you launch a bike without being able to build it). I am more suspicious that the ordered wasn't put in when they said it was put in.

I ordered a new 2025 MY bike in May utilsing salary sacrifice. It has still not arrived, and will be mid September at earliest.

Going online today Orbea now have the bike £180 cheaper on their website.

Is it just tough, or should I be able to to get the bike price reduced?

I live in south Wales and regularly ride my MTB to work and back. The quickest way for me to get in is either 3.5 miles of busy roads and dual carriageways, or a slightly shorter route via various off-road tracks. The route home is normally 10-15 miles via actual MTB trails. I can see where a Rise would work in a commute.
