Just received some new pikes,rc 160 solo air now fitted on bike with the rebound set medium to fast they have loads of top out like a spot where you can pick front of bike up and there seems like a couple of mm's free movement this would drive me mad as every time your tyre leave the ground it would knock you can remove this by slowing rebound down but this would mean forks would bog down over continuous bumps has any one else experience this, Is this normal any help would be greatfull Cheers

Isn't the rebound just for the end of stroke? If so then it is better slower as it won't pack down. There was a video of it somewhere.

This probably explains it better than me. Although I think when they say beginning stroke I think they are talking about when the forks are returning to full extension. I would call that end of stroke but I'm no suspension engineer.

Both versions of the Charger damper feature the Rapid Recovery rebound damping technology first seen on the 2012 Monarch RT3 rear shock. The system aims to keep the fork riding higher in its travel, preventing packing down on successive bumps. This is achieved by using the Dual Flow rebound system, which has separate, adjustable beginning stroke and fixed rate ending stroke rebound damping circuits.

Although this technology has been on the RockShox product line for a while, Rapid Recovery uses a faster rate ending stroke rebound that has a set ‘blow off’ point (or more correctly, a digressive damping profile), allowing it to quickly re-extend in readiness for the next bump. A slower-than-usual beginning stroke rebound rate prevents an uncontrolled bucking feeling as the fork extends back to full travel.

It's meant to be like this.
The fork has a strong neg spring action to allow it to have an easy break away when force is applied.
There is a very strong wavy spring under the air damper the prevents this negative effect creating a knock inside the forks.
My 160 Pike sit about 7mm from 160mm when resting 153mm of station showing and this drops to 4-3mm if I pick the front wheel into the air.
I suspect the remaining 3mm is the thickness of the wavy spring washer.

I felt the same thing at first with my new pikes, don't really notice it now but I could put up with a hell of a lot for the way the forks feel when descending. Amazing forks when you have them dialed in.

Mine don't seem to do that. Anyway, they are awesome forks, buttery smooth.

check that they cinch up properly on the hubs. it took me ages to dial out some play at the hub
