My old Sony died, so have just got a new Samsung S10e (very impressed so far. A little smaller than some, which is good. Waterproof, fast, good camera etc.)
However, I'm unable to connect it to my Edge 1000 via Bluetooth. The phone picks up the Garmin, and gives pairing number etc, but the Garmin doesn't seem to be connecting to it. I've tried connecting a tablet via Bluetooth as well, same problem, so I think it's a Garmin issue. Possibly a problem since the hack? Anyone else had this?
I had this and removed the connecting function from my garmin or phone. i readded it and tried again.it worked.if you going into the bluetooth settings on your phone you can tell if the phone is at fault.i hope this explains it.something installed that allows you to connect.i removed this and readded it then continued.
i had problems with a samsung. restarted things, switched them on and off etc and eventually they found each other.
Ta. Tried restarts, reinstalling Connect app etc, but still not working. Will keep trying.
Could it be linked to Garmin's hack?
I found pairing worked only when doing it from within Connect. Avoid trying to pair using the phone OS Bluetooth settings.
What he said ^
Plus recently my phone and Instinct won't connect. I've found if I turn the Bluetooth off on the phone, go into the connect app and let it turn the Bluetooth back on they start talking to each other again.
I had similar when I got a new iPhone. Initially it looked like all the Connect settings and BT pairing had been copied over and I even got phone notifications on the Edge. But it wouldn't sync rides.
Had to go into Garmin Connect app and remove the devices (Edge 1030, Edge 25 & Forerunner 35 in my case). Go into phone Bluetooth settings and tell that to forget any Garmin device related connections it knew about and then do a clean add of all the devices to Garmin Connect. Worked for the 1030 & FR35 but still struggling with the Edge25 (only use for TTs so relying on syncing tat via an old iPad).
Think the only thing Ive done but you might not have is to tell the phone settings to 'forget' the devices it knew about. With an iphone these are copied across from the old phone during initial phone setup but it seems there is something Garmin doesent like 100% about them. Might be the same with Samsung.
Yeah I think I removed the device and then added it again during the connection process.
Use the app to pair.
Do a factory restore on the Garmin. I had this recently when trying to connect to a new Moto 8. Connected easily after the restore.
Oh and then obviously use Connect to pair once you've restored the unit 👍
I think I removed the device and then added it again during the connection process.
This.
Use the app to pair
And this.
You need to remove everything off both phone and app then "add devise" on the app. Worked for me anyway.
I tried all what lunge suggests, but still no joy until doing the full factory restore. Was on a 1000 Edge.
The swearing I have witnessed from MrsIHN trying to get any Garmin device to connect, and stay connected, with a variety of phones would make a Malcolm Tucker blush.
It's terrible isn't it, reading the above? Although predictably hilarious at the same time!?
After vowing never to buy another Garmin again after the disaster that was my Edge500, I relented & bought a Forerunner 235 for running.
Connectivity is patchy, at best and non-existent at worst.
For the first 6 months it used to cause my phone to completely reboot - not just Garmin Connect, but the whole OS would suddenly just restart; perhap 3 times a fortnight. This does seem to have been fixed - presumably by a software update.
Whenever my Garmin fails to connect, I end up doing the whole forget thing with Bluetooth & starting again. Sometimes I find it still won't connect, but if I leave the phone & watch sat near each other for a while to settle their differences they eventually decide to connect & start talking again....
I just followed the instructions in the App. I've so far managed to set up 4 Garmin devices on 3 different phones without any subsequent issues.
*Update*
Had to do a full factory reset on my Garmin. Connected immediately after that.
Of course, I've now got to go back and reset all my profile settings/pages and it's half way through a 3hr update on the maps which needed a new micro SD card (luckily had a spare) to get all the maps back on.
More than a bit of a ballache.
Somewhat annoyingly, my Forerunner 235 stopped connecting to my phone about 4 days ago.
After trying all the usual stuff, the only way I could get it to connect was to get both devices to forget each other and fiddle about with Garmin Connect.
Problem is, using Garmin Connect to make the Bluetooth connection causes my phone to crash several times a week (as in a full restart).
So I can either have an intermittently connecting Garmin which will go days without taking to my phone, or a reliably connected Garmin that causes my phone to restart frequently.
Hopefully when i finally buy a Pixel 4a this problem might go away...
